About this listen
Lorna Barnett is tired of playing the role of "good girl" that her mother has always lived, and that high society prizes. It isn't until she meets Jens Harken that she realizes she yearns to be cherished for herself. Although Jens is a servant, his strength and intelligence put all the society men she's met to shame.
Jens knows their love is forbidden, but he can't keep away from the spirited, headstrong girl who's stolen his heart. His boat-building skills are his one way to break into society, and when he designs his first boat for Lorna's father, it seems that perhaps they can make a life together.
Then their love bears fruit that cannot be ignored - one that makes their love evident to the world, and threatens to keep them apart forever. Unless Lorna can find a way to make a stand for the man she loves, and defy the society in which she lives.

Story
In town, they called her "Crazy Widow Dinsmore". But Elly was no stranger to their ridicule - she had been an outsider all her life, growing up in a boarded-up old house under the strict eye of her eccentric grandparents. Now she was all alone, with two little boys to raise, and a third child on the way. Will Parker drifted into Whitney, Georgia, one lazy afternoon in the summer, hoping to put his lonely past behind him. He yearned for the tenderness he had never known, the home he'd never had. All he needed was for someone to give him a chance.

A captivating woman with blue eyes and big dreams, Emily was engaged to a man whose touch left her aching for something more. Tom, the handsome new man in town, was her father's rival in business, and challenged her heart's destiny with a single, stolen kiss. Whenever they met, sparks flew. Until she showed him how tender she could be, and he showed her how true passion could feel. Until they both realized the importance of taking vows with someone you really, truly love.

Story
Deborah Woodly agreed to a pretend engagement with Reeve, Earl of Cambridge, because his straitlaced uncle wouldn’t let him touch his inheritance before his 26th birthday. Not unless he contracted a marriage, which would presumably “settle” him. Deb and Reeve promised not to fall in love, or marry, but to ultimately declare they wouldn’t suit. Broken promises, but also someone was trying to kill Deb.

This is a must !!!
From the very beginning, this story was so moving and captivating. Set in the Victorian era, a story about two people from different social classes, the do’s-and don’ts of high society and their forbidden love. This storyline definitely had lots of angst and kept you riveted to the end. The narrator once again does an amazing job capturing all of these characters. I do however, feel that an epilogue might have tied up lose ends regarding some of the secondary characters.
