About this listen

The story of Oliver Twist - orphaned, and set upon by evil and adversity from his first breath - shocked readers when it was published. After running away from the workhouse and pompous beadle Mr Bumble, Oliver finds himself lured into a den of thieves peopled by vivid and memorable characters - the Artful Dodger, vicious burglar Bill Sikes, his dog Bull's Eye, and prostitute Nancy, all watched over by cunning master-thief Fagin. Combining elements of Gothic Romance, the Newgate Novel and popular melodrama, Dickens created an entirely new kind of fiction, scathing in its indictment of a cruel society, and pervaded by an unforgettable sense of threat and mystery.

i loved the book. the story is amusing, painfully sad, but yet beautiful. I must say the narrator was engaging and genial. However, this wasn't recorded in a place with acoustic control due to the background sounds that is audible time to time. it was specially distracting when you can hear cries and someone shouting. other than that, I would still recommend the book!!!

great narrator, amazing story

the plot was good, but there are so many descriptions that sometimes I would wonder if it was really pertinent for the book

Good book, but sort of long

I enjoyed this Audio Book well enough. The narrator was better than a couple I have heard with his ability to provide adequate voice fulgurations over some narrators I listened to which came in a mono-tone. It was hard to focus/follow at times since it was read and not dramatized (like most of my books) in which the narrators attempt to alter their voices to provide accents and/or pitch changes to simulate male or female characters. Find a quiet place without distractions, listen closely; you will enjoy this classic!

Classic well read but little dramatization.

With fifty three chapters and several characters to follow, the narrator is most creative an actor of them all, clearly defining one from the other in tone and temper. The Author is a most prodigious storyteller and worthy of study.

Matt Kelly is superb, the story as woven baskets.

The story was good, as expected. The narration was mostly good except for the occasional background interruption. I expect the narrator needs to find a quieter place in his home to make his recordings. Household noises and voices could sometimes be heard in the background. They were a little distracting.

Classic Story with Good Narration
