Wonderful

Maureen Lang is one of the few Christian authors who is truly a good writer. Her grasp of historical detail is very rare. This book is a beautiful and realistic look at mental and physical illness. Fragile X is a rare illness which causes mental retardation that passes through the family. Maureen Lang's son has the illness so she knows exactly what the characters feel like. I think that I liked Rebecca best of all the characters as she is the one I am the most like. I did not like Simon at all at first but he soon showed a different side. Lang's prose is at times very beautiful and her descriptions are wonderful.

Mixed reviews

While much of the story was intriguing and entertaining, it contained too many rediculous school-girl crush parts. The narrator acted the parts well, but she did not portray the young women's voices as young, but rather older ladies. This affects the ability to visualize them as the author portrayed them. Particularly disappointing since the narrator of the first book did such a fabulous job. Overall worthwhile.
