About this listen

Cassie, the youngest of six daughters in the Wilton family, is bold, bright, and ready to enter society. There's only one problem: her older sister, Lenora, whose extreme shyness prevents her from attending many social events. Lenora is now entering her third season, and since their father has decreed that only one Wilton girl can be out at a time, Cassie has no choice except to wait her turn.

Evan Glenside, a soft-spoken East London clerk, has just been named his great-uncle's heir, and though he is eager to learn all that will be required of him, he struggles to feel accepted in a new town and in his new position.

A chance meeting between Evan and Lenora promises to change everything, but when Lenora proves too shy to pursue the relationship, Cassie begins to write Mr. Glenside letters in the name of her sister. Her good intentions lead to disaster when Cassie realizes she is falling in love with Evan. But then Evan begins to court Lenora, thinking she is the author of the letters.

As secrets are revealed, the hearts of Cassie, Evan, and Lenora are tested. Will the final letter sent by the vicar's daughter be able to reunite the sisters as well as unite Evan with his true love?

Highest praise for this book

The author did a remarkable job of presenting numerous troublesome scenarios with resolutions that were backed with a great deal of wisdom and learning. The book kept my interest, it was clean with highest morals yet utterly intriguing. I will definitely read more from this author

realistic and complete

Well narrated and well written. I like how the main character grows through the story. She matures and better understands those around her. The end felt complete, no ending with a kiss or a wedding but with life, so you feel as if the story is continueing but you are not left wanting at it's conclusion. Clean and Christian as well. Nothing that you would not want your children to hear if you are listening aloud. In fact my kids enjoyed listening with me often and it soothed them as they drifted off to sleep.

The Vicar’s Daughter

A delightful read. It never ceases to amaze me of all the rules and regulations they had to abide by just to survive the Ton and stay on top and away from scandal. Makes me crazy to think about it!!!! I don’t know how they did it.

Lovely Story

Ms Kilpack is the best. I mistakenly listened to this book's sequel, "Miss Walton's Waltz" (outstanding!), before listening to this book; which was very much a spoiler for this book. So, I didn't enjoy it as much as its sequel, but still a wonderful, entertaining story. The narration is excellent.

Heavy religious theme

FYI, this audio book is heavy on religious themes. If you're pagan, like me it may not gain traction. It's predictable, and 20 yr olds act like 16 yr olds. So much, drama could have been controlled by Leoonora placing a ad in the paper!!

Sweet Story, Gentle Truth

This was overall an enjoyable listen. The story was well thought out and not too predictable. The characters were well formed, I enjoyed getting to know them. Biblical truth was woven throughout, but in a very gentle way so as not to be overly preachy for those listeners who may not be believers. The narrator has a pleasing, soothing voice and she reads dialogue with convincing skill. At times her performance was a tad bit monotonous and her accent was slightly off on some words. But overall she was a very good narrator and I will listen to her again.

Beautiful Story of Love and Forgiveness!

I've listened to many many audio romances, but don't think I've had one that touched me as much as this one. Many of the circumstances were sad, so sad I found tears running down my face as I was listening. Then found myself smiling and joyful as Cassie found forgiveness and love through obedience and humbleness. I didn't always feel Cassie's parents (especially her mother) was as supportive as they could have been, but I guess in the time period and the fact she was a Vicar's daughter, she was expected to act above reproach. I loved the fact that Evan was a man of integrity, even when it obviously meant there would be negative repercussions for Cassie and himself in the end. I also loved all the references to God's word. I love this was a "clean" romance. The story was so much deeper and solid and the narration was perfect. I highly recommend this book. I will listen to it again and I've already purchased the next book and can't wait to find out what happens to Lenora!
