About this listen

On April 15, 1912, three women climbed into Lifeboat 21 and watched in horror as the Titanic sank into the icy depths. They were strangers then...

Con artist Charlotte Digby lied her way through London and onto the Titanic. The disaster could be her chance at a new life - if she hides the truth about her past. Esme Harper, a wealthy American, mourns the end of a passionate affair and fears that everything beautiful is slipping from her grasp. And Anna Halversson, a Swedish farm girl in search of a fresh start in America, is tormented by the screams that ring out from the water. Is one of them calling her name?

Twenty years later, a sudden death brings the three women back together, forcing them to face the impossible choices they made, the inconceivable loss, and the secrets they have kept for far too long.

Fascinating

It's a fascinating story, not dry at all, the characters are well drawn and highly varied, but it is more entertaining than thorough, not a classic I will cherish forever. The narration is fine, somewhat odd English accent for a British character, enough to make the characters sound distinct, but not necessarily distinct enough - still, the narration is not likely to get in the way of your understanding and appreciating the story

Beautifully woven

Beautifully performed and beautifully written. Elizabeth Blackwell took me entirely into the world of the Titanic tragedy and its aftermath. The time we've of the storylines keeps the reader in suspense for every page.

A Story of the Titanic

This story focuses on the lives of several passengers, before they board, on the lifeboats, and 20 years later. It's simple and straightforward, discussing issues such as the role of women in the society of the time, and class structure. It explores why the lifeboats weren't full, and why they didn't save more. It's not great literature, but I greatly enjoyed the storytelling and the characters.

The narrator tends to be a bit too breathy and turgid for my taste, but does not ruin the story.

I recommend this book.

My thoughts

it held my interest from the first page. Once I got into the rhythm of the flashback events it was a fascinating perspective.
