About this listen

K-von is the most famous half-Persian comedian in the world. Born and raised in America, he invites the listener along on a hilarious journey as he investigates the mysteries of his Middle Eastern roots - making fun of himself along the way.

With clever use of character voices and sound effects, prepare to be charmed by his recollection of immigrant-family memories, "horror stories" from the road, and valuable cultural tips. Nothing is off limits. (There's even a chapter on laser hair removal and the problems that come along with it.)

Through relatable stories, K-von's debut audiobook brings big laughs and touching moments to listeners of all ages - regardless of their own ethnic makeup.

I really enjoyed this and I learned a lot about Persian culture. He taught me how to make chicken a rice. And checked out a very entertaining TED talk and documentary about Nowruz. I highly recommend this.

This narrative was ANIMAL. Hahaha

With his sparkling personality and wit Kvon takes you on a romp thru the Persian culture. You can practically taste the food and smell the cologne as you are introduced to the panoply of Persian family characters. Follow Kvon as he learns the dress code for a pro wrestling match and the perils of dating a Persian Princess. You are sure to enjoy this rambunctious tour of an ancient and beautiful culture where family is everything and hospitality is a high art.

Hilarious tour of the Persian culture!

K-Von narrates beautifully what it’s like to grow up between two cultures. It’s super relatable, and very funny. I caught myself laughing out loud several times while listening to this. Worth a read/listen.

Funny and Relatable

I was disappointed when I heard the book as I just saw K-von perform at ISCC and all the jokes he said in the performance was in the book. I had heard it all before!! I think he needs new material so the book is not a repeat of what people just heard. Also little similar to Funny in Farsi.

Heard it all before

This book was the biggest letdown for me. Now, I really like Kvon as a comedian, he is funny, he has funny facial expressions and he has a good way of introducing Iranian culture to people who are unfamiliar. However, he is definitely not a writer. I know he probably writes his jokes, but he needs to know writing a book requires a lot of research. Now how I know that the book lacks research background? Let’s say I am one of those Iranian who studied all her lifetime. For me the book was basically the review of all the jokes I’ve already watched on YouTube and when he tries to go beyond and provide reasons like why he uses the word Persian instead of Iranian, and in order to sound intellectual gives the irrelevant example of the Netherlands and Germany, he fails big time!
His performance is also too much for audiobooks! Sometimes, I feel like someone is yelling at me and it’s not what audiobooks are for. He should have listened to some other audiobooks to get the gist of how he is supposed to read it. It’s not a video after all.

A huge letdown
