Emma & Archer

The second book in the Fated for a Rogue series a well written story that held my interest until the end. Lady Emma Finch did not want to go to the village May Day festival, but she does go because of her friends. She meets Viscount Linley, Archer Wakefield there. I enjoyed seeing their story come together. I enjoyed listening to Anne Marie Damman narrate their story.

Charming, Perfectly Constrained Regency Novella

I have often stated I find the short forms of fiction difficult to write well, as certain aspects of the story should be constrained as much as the word limitations—and they often are not. While I have read some books by this author that didn't handle this and other trickier parts of novella writing in the best way, I am happy to say this story was well written and charming. She constrains the main part of the story to just a day, and most of that takes place at the village fete. The story arc is set up in the beginning, when the heroine doesn't want to participate in the community gathering in the way all her friends do. They're going to dress up as villagers, not ladies and gentlemen. The heroine is known for being one who prefers to look in from the shadows—her public persona is one of frostiness and distance—and she sees inherent danger in this subterfuge. And perhaps one could say she did meet a little danger in the guise of the hero who does, indeed, take her for a village lass. It was most amusing to see his reaction when he discovered she was not. But this hiccup of mistaken identity was not prolonged or protracted, and it was fun to watch the hero and heroine get to know each other, drawing out their acquaintance as they try to search for her friends. I found this particular book a lot of fun, and it's a very quick listen in audiobook form.

One Fateful May Day!

This is a novella length story that was previously published in a May Day Anthology. It is a good historical read surrounding to people meeting at the festival. Emma reluctantly attends the festival and gets separated from her company. Archer surprisingly kiss her. She is dressed like a commoner but he recognizes her since he has seen her during the season. This is a lovely story.

Mayday

It started at a festival, the Mayday festival with a maypole and everything. Emma is very proper but gets talked into going in disguise to this festival. Archer is also in disguise. A fast story, fun and joyous. Beautifully narrated, great voice and super clear.

May Day Heyday Hijinks

This is a very enjoyable listen about what happens when members of the ton 'crash' a village May Day festival. Lords and ladies are not supposed to partake in such frivolity, because it is for commoners, and could result in scandal and tarnished reputations. Knowing this, Lady Emma resists when her friends want to go, but she relents when they agree to go disguised as townsfolk so no one will recognize them. Archer Wakefield, Viscount Linley and a friend are also at the event in disguise, because they too want to partake in the fun. When a wager, an inappropriate kiss, and being separated from their companions, push Emma and Archer together, they both get a May Day they never expected.

I loved the narration. Anne Marie Damman really brought the characters to life for me.

May Day

A cute novella that pokes fun at the expectations of women and the separation between the classes. Apart of a series but can be read as a standalone.
