About this listen

Jasper Sutton—London’s most dedicated scoundrel—needs a wife, and he needs one quickly.

He needs one yesterday, in fact. His requirements are precise: she must be capable of mothering the wild twin daughters who have unexpectedly appeared in his life, and so must possess the patience of a saint and the understanding of an angel. Better still if she is plain and has no expectation of a true marriage. He is not about to reform his ways.

But how is he to find such a paragon of womanly virtue when troublesome, maddening baggage keeps haunting his gaming hell and getting herself into scrapes?

Lady Octavia Alexander, the ton’s most dedicated spinster, has no need of a husband. She is quite firmly and happily on the shelf, a devoted aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews. But she does harbor one illicit dream: she wants to start her own newspaper devoted solely to scandal and gossip. What better way to do so than to immerse herself in the sordid underworld of the East End? There is just one problem standing in the way of her plans, and his name is Jasper Sutton. But Octavia won’t abandon her independence and her future for an unscrupulous rogue. No matter how handsome he is, and regardless of how irresistible his kisses.

Between running his family’s gaming hell, chasing after his wayward daughters, and keeping Lady Octavia from being robbed, spirited away by some enterprising criminal (or worse) Jasper is losing his patience. Even more concerning: he’s beginning to fear the only woman he truly wants to marry is the vexing lady who has sworn she will never wed. All he has to do is change her mind and win her heart.

This was book has great characters and chemistry. There were some errors in the narration, but overall the narrators did a fine job. I loved the family focus and character arcs.

Again another audiobook that says it’s 6 hours and is only 4. Like the book but would not have used a credit on a 4 hour book. I would have just read it instead.
I find that this has happened a lot on audible.
Trying to cheat us it seems.

Did not like narrator

The new Derek Perkins in my book! This narrator can read the ingredients to paint to me… He is utterly fabulous!
Storyline not bad either. The heat in this book is amazing, many “seasoned” authors could take a lesson on how to write a story with consistency in the storyline et the sex scenes combined. Beautifully done. Bravo Ms. Scarlett! You have aa eager new fan!

Two words: Will f*chin Throne!!! Okay Three…

I love this story Scarlett Scott is an amazing writer. This story was so lovely and humorous. I love the characters especially the twin girls. Jasper Sutton a scoundrel needing a wife. Lady Octavia Alexander, the sprinter that didn’t need a husband , where thrown together and became in love. page turner but I heard it by audible. A must read.

The story was too short for me but it was filled with teamy chemistry between the MMC and the FMC.

Love will thorne, always. Victoria was good as well, I just had to speed up her sections a bit. Easy story, my fave tropes. Good steam and spice and tension and humor thrown in.

sweet victorian romance

This book was like being wrapped in a warm cozy blanket: misunderstanding didn't go on overly long; H and h were pretty much all-in from the get-go or at least acknowledged their desire and feelings for the most part; sweet gestures and protectiveness; funny in just the right spots, especially the h's internal dialogue when trying to resist the H. (I will not kiss him, I will not kiss him, I will not kiss him) I never pre-order audiobooks/printbooks, but I adored this one so much that I immediately pre-ordered Rafe's book.

Also, the narration was amazing. I have purchased a couple audiobooks in the past that have both a male and female narrator, as does this one, and I have to just say THANK YOU to whomever made that decision. When you have two really excellent narrators, it improves the experience/engagement so much versus a single male or female narrator. I hope dual narrators becomes more popular!

Both narrators were incredible, but have to give a special nod to Victoria Aston who was just so absolutely spot on with the h's slyly funny little bits of dialogue that are peppered throughout.

Just my cup of tea

Great story line. Great characters.Steamy! The Suttons should replace the Bridgertons on TV. Shonda Rimes, please consider for your next hit series.

Move over Bridgertons, The Suttons are coming

If I was reading the book myself I would have loved it. I like the sound of Will Thorne’s voice. It vary masculine and makes the character seem hard which is good. The problem that I have is he makes every sentence seem like a question. The inflection is just off. As for Victoria Aston her inflection isn’t really all that much better, but all in all it’s a good story and I would recommend it.

It’s a good story.

The narration was not the best but the story was good if a bit trite.
