Publisher's summary

I've written what I call an autobiographical, historical book. As you listen, you'll follow my rise from just a 1970s kid selling drugs out of my mom's house into a life of crime lasting more than 22 years and the road that took me from 3 finger ozs and 1/2 grams of Blow to moving tons of weed and thousands of pounds of Cocaine. And from the fast life of Cigarette boats, racing cars, and Learjets—to just hanging on for dear life. You'll listen about the history of how the drug wars started and how, along with some of the biggest smugglers in the world, I was more than willing to help.

Then, the darker side, when facing a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison, I'm recruited by the DEA and confronted with the choice to switch teams. That's the autobiographical part; the historical part is my dive into the lives and stories of these times and how they were inexplicably interwoven into my life. South Florida had 'em all, from Movie stars to murderers, all true stories that, in some instances, are stranger than fiction!

All this created by a government that just had to know better. They had to know that, like the unenforceable prohibition of alcohol just five decades earlier, the now huge demand for pot would create a similar outcome. That new “Al Capones” would arise and bring with them similar blood in the streets. They had to know… Again, we didn't invent weed and cocaine…we just filled a need! And now, as Paul Harvey would say, "is the rest of the story"...

Real Life

Best book I’ve listened to in a very long time! Brought back some real life memories!! Some of them good and some of them scary as hell! If you lived and grew-up in the 70’s and 80’s especially if you lived in South Florida you have to read this book. Perfectly written and narrated!

Very well spoken and intriguing

Overall the narration was very well spoken and kept me engaged the whole time. It’s crazy hearing about what South FL was like during that time but I absolutely love hearing about stories based on true events— if that’s your niche than I highly recommend checking out this book!

A personal and poignant telling of what can be the harsh realities of our choices. Bravo for your honesty.

I believe Ken Behr captured the time and place of South Florida during the drug wars with fresh ironic humor and focus. Accurately portraying the 80’s 90s drug trade and its sever pitfalls to us all. Ken writes with knowledge, passion and longing to set the story of his life straight. And who and what sparked the drug crazed world we all live with now. I enjoyed it, listened to his personal narration over three days. It was great fun. ONE STEP OVER THE LINE has invoked many memories for myself of just how wonderful and exciting our fleeting youth was and at the same time real and oh so dangerous. I believe none escaped that time without a healthy or unhealthy dose of PTSD. If in fact they did escape.

I’m looking forward to the next book.
