Publisher's summary

An all wolf-shifter police force has been the only thing between humans and an unknown evil for centuries, but the pack is in danger of dying if they don't find their promised mates soon.

Trevor Burbank is a shifter cop in a world of humans who don't know the evil that wants them dead. If he does his job well, the humans will never need to know, but he feels like he's working against the clock because his pack is about to die. The females have all been killed, and the half-breeds they make when they mate with humans aren't usually skilled or strong enough to fight.

Gabriela Carmi has lost almost everything that means anything to her way too fast and now she feels like she's losing her mind too. On a quest to find something that won't reveal itself to her, she feels as if she's pining for someone who may not exist. So when an evil presence begins to follow her, she isn't sure if her mind is slowly falling apart or if the impossible is actually coming true. And when an instant attraction sparks between her and the handsome police officer sent to help her, it makes matters worse and better at the same time.

It's a race against time to find the angel/human hybrid "One True Mates" that the pack's spiritual leaders say truly exist. Saving the all the shifter clans is on everyone's mind, except for the chosen, the One True Mates, most of whom don't even know who or what they really are or why they seem to be slowly losing their minds.

Steamy. Light swearing. High heat. You've never experienced a shifter romance like this before.

Different & Loved It!

Although this is a shifter book, it has a different spin on things. It sucked me into their world from the very start. Wolf shifters are called Wolven's. and their mates & future mates have all been killed. There is a prophesy about the Wolvens and their one true mate. Although book one does a good wrap up on the story line that it started, I am so involved in the surrounding characters that I immediately went to look for the 2nd book in the series. The other characters have so much to give to the ongoing plot that I NEEDED to know their story.

Another thing I liked about the book was that IT HAD A PLOT. It wasn't endless sex just for that reason alone. If there was a love scene it was because it had a place in the ongoing story. Yea! an author is finally listening that we don't want the sex scenes just because they can write them. We want substance in our shifter romance stories. Well, at least I do. I felt invested in the story line. I want to know what is going on with the other characters and want them to have an exciting journey along with the HEA that we all look for.

I must keep my eyes glued to Audible for the next book in a series that is sure to win the hearts of others - just like it did for me.

The narrator really did have a voice that I could relate to as a Wolven.

Good story but really poor Narrator

I must say that the story line is unique and we'll written. But, the person that was chosen to provide the spoken narration did a very poor job (Michael Pauley). I hope that Audible gets someone else to narrate the rest of the series.

Good book overall, lots of story holes.

The plot of this book has a great premise. I can see it getting stronger as she develops the story line more. Some of the character descriptions and back stories were difficult to follow. There were a lot of tangent story lines in the backgrounds that were left unanswered. I will not continue on with the series. I think there is potential there for a great series, but it will not be allowed in this type of book, short story, adult, sex.

Pretty Good Beginning

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how Lisa Ladew explains how shifters came into being and I loved the shifter world's conflict. I thought it was interesting and a fresh idea. It's a blend of shifters, dragons and angels. If you would have asked me before listening if I thought they could be combined well, I would not have thought so but Ms. Ladew does a wonderful job of it. There were several great characters throughout the story and I find it funny that I could fall in love with two unshifted wolves - Trent and Troy - but I did. Really great characters.

There were some inconsistencies and issues with the story here and there, if I'm being honest. I found several loose ends that don't feel like they'll be addressed later. There's also one scene, that is even mentioned in the author's notes as being one of her favorites, that I honestly didn't see the point of and wondered why it was even in the book. For those who have read the book, I'm referring to the rut scene. This was enough to keep it from a 5 rating but not enough to take away from the enjoyment of the book.

Michael Pauley did a good job narrating but there was something just a little off for me. He's got a pretty wonderful voice but sounded like a robot at times. His Scottish brogue also slipped into a little Arnold Schwarzenegger here and there. It was all fine, just nothing that made me want to seek him out.

I thought this one was worth the credit so I will be picking up the second one. I encourage you to pick it up, too. Enjoy!

Good story but..

Story was good but the narrator was annoying. probably more enjoyable if read instead of audible.

Great Story But Narration Mechanical At Times

Engaging steamy paranormal adventure story - great start to series. Narration is good at times, but sound quality is very tinny, sounding almost mechanical at times like a GPS voice, particularly at the beginning so I had to change my equalizer settings to make listening acceptable.
