Publisher's summary
A conspiracy threatens everyone in the colonized worlds. Only they can stop it.
In a distant future where advancements in cybernetics and gene-splicing have resulted in a dozen different variants of humanity, three individuals find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that could doom everyone in the colonized worlds.
Paige Angstrom, a fierce and loyal Peacekeeper, yearns to shield her sister Volara from a life of corporate-indentured servitude.
Hemlocke Shaw, a gene-spliced engineer, tirelessly searches for his missing eco-activist wife.
And Emrald Re, a no-nonsense bounty hunter, embarks on a mission to find a vanished wastelander named Lewis DuCane.
Amidst deadly power outages, vanishing civilians, and stalled terraforming projects, the trio unearths a cover-up of epic proportions. The revelation sends shockwaves through their lives, forcing them to confront their own identities and become unlikely heroes in the struggle against the very architects of the Terran race.
From debut authors Matt Conant and Lauren Cipollo, the Parallax series will transport you to a universe teeming with adventure, where ordinary individuals become beacons of hope in the face of oppression.

Story
You'd think being the princess of all shifters would come with benefits and glamour and freedom—it doesn't. It comes with isolation, constant fear, and a fabric over my head the whole damn time. Nobody will believe me or lift a finger to help me figure out why I'm stuck in this loop, not even my father, the dragon king. If I dare to even mention it to him, I end up with a bloody lip. Yeah, he's a very hard man to talk to. That's why I have no other choice but to switch places with my maid and run away.

Definitely interesting
Loved the narrator she made the book interesting that I wanted to listen to the book, it took me a while to get into the story but I'll have to listen to the next book to find out what happens next. If you a character driven book with multiple points of view and you like sci-fi books I can recommend you give it a listen.

wow wow wow
The story was a lot of fun! The characters are varried, fully fleshed out, and so much fun. I wasn't sure about Paige and her sister at the beginning, I'm here for the space druid! But everyone quickly grew on me. And Emerald? with that ship? ROFL Amy did such a fantastic job bringing this to life. I pretty much exclusively listen to audiobooks so, please take my praise of the profomance with the gravity that deserves. They all get a standing ovation from me.
Except for making the kitten sad... you know what you did.

Original Story, Incredible Characters, Epic Scifi
Mass Effect Meets A Song of Ice and Fire. This book definitely leaves you wanting more! A fast paced original story, Origin has incredible readability and reread-ability. We follow three different POVs as they deal with the realities of capitalism is space. The world feels lived in and every character has depth and nuance. You really fall in love with their stories and journeys. Amy Hutchins gives an incredible performance narrating each of the characters, you can't help but love them. You can tell the authors were passionate in creating the little details and lore of this universe. Incredible debut novel, I can't wait next two.

Love love love!
I have so many good things to say about this. I was not expecting to listen to one of my favorite of the year when I picked this up. The performance from the narrator was so engaging! I think my favorite part of the story was the interesting world building. There were so many aspects of it that were unique and interesting. The characters made me not want to press pause.

First Sci-Fi Adventure
I enjoyed this book so much! It was my first journey into a space opera and I’m excited for books 2 & 3! The character descriptions provided just enough info that left room for my imagination to fill in the blanks and the story itself had me reaching to turn the page early! I started with the ebook version and picked up the audiobook half-way through. I highly encourage checking out both versions, but Amy Hutchins' audiobook narration will transport you directly into space with the characters! Even if you think sci-fi, space travel, or gene splicing isn’t for you, give this book a try. You’ll be glad you did and will be eagerly waiting for the next book like the rest of us!

12hrs went by faster than expected.. Great Read!!!
It's always exciting to find a new sci-fi to latch onto and ride into the edges of its universe. Origin Parallax Book 1 did that for me. After looking at how much I had left and where the characters were 2 hours before finishing this book, I fully expected a cliff-hanger, which Matt and Lauren delivered.
Definitely worth the read and definitely worth the next book(already bought)! Top-notch world-building in a sci-fi that is non-stop action.
I cannot say enough about Amy Hutchins as a narrator, I found her on TikTok and she has easily become one of my favorites. Literally the single reason I found Matt, Lauren,

What A Space Opera!
Sci-Fi isn't my usual genre. But listening to the audiobook narrated by Amy Hutchins made it easier to get through. At first I found it hard to get a feel for all of our different main characters. But after I got them down and their journeys clicked into place it was easy to follow along.
They're all unique characters and have their own fun quirks. They each have their own growth that I loved to see. Loved it when a couple main characters actually crossed paths too. I'm excited to see where the 2nd & 3rd books lead them.

The character development and the performance!
I don’t often read SyFi, but when I do, I want it to be this. Matt and Lauren have managed to write an intelligent yet accessible space opera. They have managed to weave the exposition into the character development and not once was I lost in a too complicated universe. These characters are rich and compelling and BONUS!…They are brought brilliantly to life by Amy Hutchins in a beautiful audio performance. The collaborative chemistry between authors and narrator is electric and I can’t wait for the next two books

I never would’ve thought!!!
I do not see myself as a sci-fi reader nor do I understand the terminology of sci-fi books, but once I started this, I couldn’t stop. There were points where I would get confused as to what something meant and then it would get cleared up for me, The characters are so relatable and so funny and well written! The storyline is absolutely wild and I am already done with the second book as well and I love that one just as much if not more than this one! And narration of the characters is also so amazing and captivating. She makes it like watching a movie in my head, highly highly recommend!!!!!🫶🏼

amazing Biopunk
This book really understands the "punk" part of biopunk. Their corporate hellscape feels all top plausible, while still being an inventive and interesting world to learn about. All of thr characters are great, and I can't wait to learn what will happen to them next.
