About this listen

What should have been a routine afternoon on the witness stand for forensic handwriting expert Claudia Rose turns into a shocking assault that leaves her bruised and bloodied. Following on the heels of a series of other traumatic events, the attack sends Claudia to the brink of a breakdown. Her fiancé, LAPD Homicide Detective Joel Jovanic, learns of the attack while leading a homicide investigation into a mailbox bomb.

An innocent housekeeper in the tony Venice neighborhood is dead, and the homeowner is the CEO of a major pesticide-producing corporation that has been targeted in the past. When a notebook found in a geocache near the crime scene leads to the protest group People for Safe Food, Jovanic needs Claudia to identify the handwriting of a suspected eco-terrorist.

Though she may have recovered physically from the assault weeks later, Claudia’s fears continue to plague her. Desperate to get away, she accepts an invitation to lecture in the UK, but her trip turns into a nightmare when she runs afoul of both the FBI and New Scotland Yard. Jovanic’s homicide case has followed her to London where she finds herself unexpectedly allied with the chief suspect.

Best I've Read all year !!

My seventh read from author Sheila Lowe and the sixth book in the Forensic Handwriting Series. Good, well-written mystery that takes off like a jet from an aircraft carrier in the opening pages and never lets up! With every book she writes Lowe continues to sculpt her craft and gets better & better. The characters likable & attention holding. The plot and the sub-plot were both well-developed. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I'll definitely be reading more in this series as new books come up.

Best book in the series so far!

WRITTEN OFF is the sixth book in the Forensic Handwriting series. For some reason the audiobooks are being released in the opposite order of the books, starting with seven and working our way backwards. Since they each stand on their own, this is not a problem (except for her relationship with Joel Jovanic being run backwards).

Reading about Claudia’s world makes me wish I too were a handwriting expert. What would I need to add to my education? How do you gain the notoriety needed to be accepted as a witness in court? Would I be good at it? So many questions! I love the bits I learn as I read these stories.

Now back to the story… Edge of the seat, outstanding, amazing, superb…. Am I making myself clear? If you love suspense mystery, this is a story and a series for you. The writing is crisp, the characters are warm, and the mystery is unique and suspenseful.

Narration: Again, Anna Crowe is an amazing narrator. She does a superb job of bringing all of the characters to life.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted audiobook copy via Audiobookboom, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

This story held my attention from the opening paragraphs until the end. I have found all the mysteries in this series to be twisted like pretzels which was true for this story also. One of my favorite things about this series has been the convoluted mystery featured in each story which I found entertaining, but this mystery was more thought-provoking for me due to the subject matter. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I thought Anna Crowe's narration was good, and her performance kept my attention. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which included my honest opinions regarding this tale.

A Thought-provoking Mystery

Outside the Lines by Sheila Lowe pulled me in immediately. I really liked the characters of Claudia and Joel. The plot of the book was well developed and I found myself wondering who's the bomber, is the victim really the target. The imagery and twists are wonderful in this book. The narration by Anna Crowe was spot on. She gave the right emotions and urgency to the situations. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. This book is part of a series and a standalone listen.

This is Sheila Lowe's best working in her Forensic Handwriting Series. The story line is great, and so is the narrator. The work she and her detective fiance are doing is compelling and believable. I highly recommend it!

Best one of the series!

Although this is book six, it is my first encounter with forensic expert Claudia Rose; I'm now looking forward to more. Many previous incidents are incorporated by reference, but merely enrich background for this standalone tale. Murder and mayhem pull us into the world of the pesticide producers and some of their deadliest products, reminding us that profit and greed often trump the human equation but also pointing out the delicate balance between extending food supplies to save lives and promoting safety in the application of those measures. But don't let the deep background quandry dissuade you from enjoying this international thriller which, as wonderfully vocalized by narrator Anna Crowe, pulls you into the drama from the start.

The story is solid. Fun to enter the world of the hand writing analysis - adds a different twist to the standard mixer mystery.
Read is excellent . Easy to follow the different characters and yet the reader does not cross the line into caricatures. Recommend
