About this listen

After eight long years, Sasha McCandless is about to make partner at a prestigious law firm. When a plane operated by her client slams into the side of a mountain, killing everyone aboard, Sasha gears up to defend the inevitable civil lawsuits. She soon realizes the crash was no accident: A developer has created an application that can control a commercial plane's onboard computer from a smartphone. Sasha joins forces with a federal air marshal, and they race to prevent another airline disaster. But when people close to the matter start turning up dead, Sasha must rely on both her legal skills and her Krav Maga training to stop the madman before he kills her.

It was true. She was a Target woman.

BLUF: Smart, intriguing, "still relevant today" plot line!

Sasha McCandless, JD, is just awesome. Smart, put together, she's well-versed in Krav Maga, Israeli hand-to-hand combat, and she's also swept up by accident into quite the murky mess! I love her slightly prickly, but never purposely mean jabs between friends.

Enter Air Marshal Leo Connelly, Federal Air Marshal, who has a helluva impactful meet-cute with our Lady lawyer. Oh, did I mention a she's 5'0", red-head? Who is good at Krav Maga? 🤣 It goes over about as well as you can imagine!

Thankfully, Leo, all deliciously tall dark and handsome bit of him knows there's too much at stake and moves himself into her space. All of them. House office, car court room!

With the clock ticking down, these two are quite the pair figuring out who's the culprit (we the reader know! But they don't!) And the supporting characters are quite the fun cast as well!

The narration was done pretty well! Solo voiced instead of dual or duet, Ms Fortin voiced probably nearly a dozen different tones. I would have like just a tiny bit deeper male voices but that's nitpicking! A couple places had some overly long gaps between chapters, but it's very likely that was delay due to reception.

Well, I guess I have a new series to go binge now! 🙃

Irreparable Harm starts out with a high tension scene and it doesn't let up. Oh, there are times when things slow down a bit, but the tension doesn't ease. This is the first in a series featuring Sasha McCandless, and I've just gotta tell you - Sasha is one tough lawyer, and I don't just mean in the courtroom. As it turns out, she's pretty darn good at taking care of herself. The storyline is a little out there, or at least I hope it's a little out there - if not, I may never get on an airplane. It's also a bit convoluted, and while I would usually knock a book for that, it works here. There are a lot of moving parts in this one, and Melissa Miller brings it all together wonderfully.
Suzanne T Fortin gives voice to Sasha, and she does so quite well. The excitement and tension of the book comes through loud and clear, from courtroom drama to physical fights, it's done so well that I could picture it all.
In the end, this one doesn't have as much courtroom page time as I expected, but that along with the drama and action blends together so well that I didn't even notice it until I'd finished listening and thought back over the story. It's a great mix of solid storytelling and narration, and I'll be checking out more work by both Miller and Fortin.

The story line is good and interesting but, for me, it was too wordy. I felt like the performer did not use enough distinction between characters and it made it difficult to follow. It is definitely interesting enough to finish but I found myself wanting to fast forward through the law explanations. Haven’t decided whether I want to continue with the series.

IRREPARABLE HARM was first released a full decade ago and was finally released in audio format this month. I'm happy to see the legal thrillers by Melissa F Miller being released in audio. Protagonist Sasha McCandless works for a large law firm in Pittsburgh where she is soon to be made partner after eight years of working tirelessly as an associate. A commercial airliner owned and operated by the law firm's largest client crashes killing all aboard. All is not as it seems Sasha leads the firm's efforts to represent its client.

I hope this excellent series does well at Audible. The writing is first rate and the narration by Suzanne Fortin is flawless.

Book didn’t keep my interest and author seemed to describe things that didn’t need to be described.
