About this listen

My past is hunting me.

The Mountain Pack is everything I hoped for: a haven where every shifter has the same rights. Pack laws are respected and followed without fail. Even the Alpha must obey them, or suffer dire consequences. But the law says I'm not allowed to live here.

When the corrupt leader of the Council delivers an ultimatum calling for the death of one of my mates, there are no good options. If we stay, it means war. If we sneak away, we become rogues. No matter what, my dream of a safe home is ruined.

And my only escape may be back where I began.

Pack Ruin is the third book in The Splintered Bond, a medium-dark paranormal wolf shifter series with cliffhanger endings. This is a slow-burn romance where the heroine will not have to choose between her future mates. For mature listeners.

This author doesn’t understand reverse harem. It is so f***ing frustrating to listen to a heroine who clearly only loves one member. If that kind of fundamental inequity runs through every book, I DON’T CARE about the rest of the plot. It’s all I can hear. A plot with great politics and espionage can’t be a substitute. If all I wanted was politics and espionage, I’d go read politics and espionage books. This book is only saved by the fact that Flor was away from Brand for half of it, and had some forced proximity with Luke and Glen. But when Brand re-emerges she clings to him like a monkey, and once again he’s the hero of the day and clearly her favourite. I wanted to throw something. Normally I would love a character like Brand. In a healthy sextet dynamic he would’ve been the calm in the storm, a steady and centring force for everyone BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A LOVING UNIT. But because of the writing, I skipped huge sections of him alone with Flor. And of her building intimate relationships with his family.

Also note, at the start of book 4 (which is not on Audible, but exists) Brand returns and the heroine spends that entire first night screwing his brains out (that’s more sex than she’s had with all other ‘harem’ members combined). And she does this while 2 of her other mates have been captured, 3 are being tortured, and 1 of their bonds has snapped! There’s no decency or urgency in that woman. Remember, I’m talking about book 4, the last book in the series, so this is it. There’s no more time for harem building.

I’d like to recommend this series because the plot is intricate and interesting, and so much better than most in this sub-genre (hence my 5 story stars) but if you like rh romance with loyalty, passion, and relationship equality, skip this series.

Unequal harem
