About this listen

Medical doctor and national bestselling author of Make America Healthy Again Nicole Saphier reveals how politicization of the COVID-19 pandemic has baffled the public by creating distrust, fueling conspiracy theories, and making it harder for Americans to understand the necessary path forward.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced America into an unprecedented crisis. Critics have placed the blame at Donald Trump's door, but the reality is political polarization further contributed to the chaos during the national emergency.

The media threw itself into hysteria regarding potential treatments such as hydroxychloroquine that led to political influence infiltrating scientific research. Medical professionals everywhere were stripped of the freedom to treat the sick. Patients, physicians and researchers became hesitant to trial an established medication solely because it was briefly touted by Donald Trump after international research regarding the medication was shared with him. Half of the population began working on proving its efficacy as a low-cost, safe means to treat a novel illness as the other half were determined to prove Donald Trump wrong.

While the media trumpets the importance of following science to "flatten the curve," they praise Governors Andrew Cuomo and Phil Murphy, who sanctioned ill-equipped nursing homes to take COVID-positive patients, leading to an enormous death spike for New York and New Jersey. The state administrations are still concealing accurate records of nursing home deaths and have made anti-science decisions regarding re-opening plans; all of which fuel distrust and civil unrest.

When anti-science measures are continuously implemented, the long-term consequences of such actions will likely outweigh that of the virus itself.

The pandemic has resulted in a failure of government, much of which is unavoidable in a unique disaster scenario. However, the rampant politicization of science has hopelessly muddied the water and knee-jerk anti-Trumpism made it all worse.

A refreshingly cogent look at the last 18 months

The author presents a convincingly devastating view of all the human frailty, bias, and poor judgement that went into our response to the 2020 pandemic, all the while maintaining an optimistic tone. She’s a cool breeze of fresh air in the hotly debated public health landscape.

Great book … Awesome job Nicole

Nicole,

I am very impressed with the job you did on your book Panic Attack. The amount of details and reference material you cited was simply amazing. I learned a lot about the history of the contagion, the corruption and lies in the media, political sphere, CCP, the WHO and CDC. I thought you did an excellent job of stating the facts, the heroes and the villains ( good Beach Boys song btw 😉), the potential origins, and never coming across as a partisan just wanting to make a quick buck on a book. Your use and command of the English language and terrific writing style was very entertaining and informative.

All in all, great job 👏!!! You are as talented as a writer as you are a doctor and TV FNC contributor. It’s not fair that one person could have so much talent in so many different areas.

Almost 5 stars, well worth the listen

This is an Audible review and an honest review. Let me start with, if you do not believe the Government, the WHO did anything wrong and are unwilling to listen, be open and learn, this book will most likely not be for you. On the otherhand, if you do not believe there was a pandemic this book will not be for you either. But, I really hope you will listen, I wish Fauci would listen, I wish all Americans would listen, and most of all, I wish all our news media and politicians would listen. This is the most honest and middle of the road explanation of what the government did well and what they did not do good and how they used "follow the science and fear against the American people", all the while not following themselves; whether they were Republican or Democrats. Only by looking back and realizing that misinformation and politics did play a role in a real Pandemic, can we move forward and heal and be prepared for the next viral outbreak as there most definitely will be one. I thought the Author did a great job in trying to present facts and be neutral - thereby truly following the science and acknowledging that science can and should change while you are rushing to save lives. Quite honestly that is what scares me and should scare you as well. Think of all the scientific discoveries where at one time the scientist would have been considered a quack - and then "oh my", they were proven right. Instead doctors, well know scientists, are being scrutinized, silenced and reputations ruined because they dare to question and then Politifact, Facebook, Google and Twitter says they are wrong. There will always be those corrupt people, doctors and scientists who unfortunately try and take advantage of the weak and those in need, but scientist should and MUST be allowed to practice science, not just the science that goes along with your political message. This disease is new and doctors should be questioning; that is how cures, new discoveries and amazing treatments are found.

My only reason for the 4 stars was a few more references would have been helpful to validate information and perhaps they were provided in book format.

Reader: The author has a pleasant voice and was very easy to listen to.

I will definately listen to this again.

still misses the point

Although the author correctly spots the dangerous mix of politics and science, she still thinks there is a silver lining to this pandemic:a streamlined bureaucracy.
prof Mattias Desmet gets it when he describes mass formation and the psychosis around totalitarianism. you won't believe what a streamlined bureaucracy can do when it has a population hypnotized by fear. if the author had openened a history book instead of a science book she would have known streamlined government bureaucracies killed 260 million people in the 20th century. All in the pursuit of noble causes.
Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
we already have segregated restaurants now. Socialists like Noam Chomsky recommend starving the unvaxxed into submission. A Dutch advisor of our government would like to send the unvaxxed to an island. Madagascar plan anyone? History books can tell us more than science about what is going to happen.

Very disappointed

I enjoyed Dr. Saphier's previous book and was looking forward to this release. After listening to the first few chapters I had to force myself to continue. I finally stopped at Chapter 8. Dr. Saphier speaks highly of the CDC, WHO and Dr. Fauci, which completely shocked me.
