Publisher's summary

A parable is a comparison of two things telling us about the one through familiarity with the other.

Thirty-plus parables Jesus gave us are reviewed, plus a few short sayings of his that are also marked as parables, each one having a short and concise summery after it. The parables that Jesus gave us can be categorized as teaching parables, kingdom parables, and prophetic and warning parables.

The audiobook orders the parables in a logical teaching progression that they were given to us over the ministry of Jesus, also showing the relevance of why it was given at that time.

We should all become familiar with the parables Jesus gave us, for the book of Proverbs that Solomon wrote is oftentimes referred to as the book of wisdom. And now a greater one than Solomon is here (Jesus Christ) - Matthew 12:42. Therefore, how much greater will be our blessing be when we understand the parables Jesus gave us?

The audiobook ends by showing a few parables from the Old Testament and their usage, some which are marked parables and some which are not.

Encouraging

Even though I’ve read these parables many times. The author brought more insight into each one, giving me a fresh perspective. It’s clear and to the point.

A few aha moments!

Paul Halbeck does a good job of expanding on the symbolism behind the parables. Some I never thought of before.

Christopher Boucher narrated the audiobook with great diction.

Parables Explained

Lots of scripture. One thing this book does that not all books on scripture does, is when he references a verse he quotes the scripture. Through this book, Halbeck runs many parables and then backs up his understanding of them with other verses. This book is short and good for anyone whether you are a bible scholar or just starting to read the bible.

Excellent study of the parables of Jesus.

I found this book, useful and helpful. I learned a lot of things about the parables I either didn't know, or had forgotten. The way the parables were told and then summarised was exactly what was needed. I also really appreciated the way it was explained how we could apply the parables to our daily lives. This will be a book I may revisit in the future, as it contains many gems of wisdom. The narration was good and clear.

Enjoyed

I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. I enjoyed listening to the parables and the notes after each one. Each parable is a familiar one and each time I listen or read one my faith is increased and my understanding improves. The narration was a little bland and slow but I sped up to 1.25 and it was ok. Thanks for putting them on audio so I can listen in the car on long rides.

Not very deep

I received this book for free but leave this review of my own accord.

I was excited by the concept of this book and it very well may be something I go back and give another listen at some later time, but I found the analysis of the parables to be lacking. The author didnt seem to go very deep into each one. A couple of the more complicated ones get some extra attention since he breaks them down a bit before explaining, but I was really just hoping for more.
The narration was clean. No editing errors or anything, but the narrator was so bland it may as well have been Siri doing it.

Explore the Parables

I enjoyed the way the author arranged the parables in chronological order and his thinking about how different parables fit into different stages of the Savior's ministry. I particularly enjoyed the discussion around the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. The performance was a little lecture like, but the story...well its pretty much the greatest story ever told. I did receive a ARC in exchange for a review, much appreciation to the author for sharing his work.

A Useful Book

I found the book to be very useful for remembrance and for study. I recommend it to anyone seeking to better understand the Word. The author does a good job of review and follows up for each parable. The writing is clear and concise. I had a little trouble with the narrator. He too was clear and concise, but the narration was robotic in places which detracted somewhat from the narration. He is a good narrator, just wish he sounded a little more natural. That should not be a deal breaker for obtaining and listening to the book. It wasn't for me. Overall, I liked the book.

An explanation on the Parables

I received this audiobook free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.

In Parables of the Bible, Paul Halbeck gives listeners/readers an excellent in depth introduction of the Parables of Jesus, using scriptural text to help in explaining some of the more overlooked meanings in what Jesus was saying to the people of His day in a way that is easily understandable. I definitely recommend for anyone interested in learning more about Jesus’ teachings and the Biblical text. This is a great learning and teaching tool.
