About this listen

Paramédico is a brilliant collection of adventures by Australian paramedic Benjamin Gilmour as he works and volunteers on ambulances around the world. From England to Mexico, and Iceland to Pakistan, Gilmour takes us on an extraordinary thrill-ride with his wild co-workers. Along the way, he learns a few things, too, and shows us not only how precious life truly is, but how to passionately embrace it.

Fascinating!

Amazing story and well told. I'm in EMS, but it's written so others would enjoy it too.

Eye Opening

What did you like best about this story?

This is a fascinating story about an Australian paramedic who starts out in an Australian backwater and travels to many countries to experience his trade under vastly different circumstances. It compares the EMS systems in as varied places as Pakistan, Mexico and England. He both participates and instructs first responders. We have a lot to learn and his characters are portrayed with warmth.

What does Trevor Whittaker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It took a little to get used to his voice. It was not at all what I was expecting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to learn more about the people in other countries.

A big disappointment.

It’s a shame that the author does his level best to portray himself as the only hero and professional amongst a bunch of amateur, poorly trained, unethical, bumbling idiots.

With his amazing exposure to different countries and EMS systems, he didn’t use the opportunity to develop an understanding of the local country’s challenges or respect their efforts. He’d rather ridicule it. What a waste of his time.

As an EMS worker with 14 years experience in different countries, including some of the countries mentioned in this book, I disagree with the way professional healthcare workers, working in extremely challenging circumstances, are portrayed in the book.
