About this listen

The first time somebody tried to kill him was an accident.

The second time was deliberate.

Now Paul Mulchrone finds himself on the run with nobody to turn to except a nurse who has read one-too-many crime novels and a renegade copper with a penchant for violence. Together they must solve one of the most notorious crimes in Irish history.

Or else they’ll be history.

A Man with One of Those Faces is the first book in Caimh McDonnell's critically acclaimed Dublin Trilogy series, which melds fast-paced action with a distinctly Irish acerbic wit.

Very engaging, keeps you interested

I loved the story, and the narration was also fantastic. There were a few sound discrepancies in the recording, but the voices were outstanding. I hope to see the characters develop- as a stand alone the banter is fantastic, but so many characters are picked up it doesn’t leave room for the main characters to fully flesh out. The focus seems to be on authentic interactions moving the story along more than characters motivations - so far at least. I love all the characters, and the situations are very funny. Excited to get to know the characters better. It makes me feel that maybe the author is also experiencing them -just meeting them for the first time too and getting to know them more and more as the series continues.

Fun, funny, fast paced

Fun story that’s a fast-moving romp. Lots of dialog, but not much character development. The narrator was not great. The voices were so weird and cartoony. Especially Bunny McGarry. Sort of detracted from my enjoyment.

A Grand Story!

So happy to have discovered the “Irish Trilogy”. Many happy hours listening to this first installment and excited to dive into the rest of the books. The author reminds of Carl Hiaasen in his ability to portray a variety of nicely drawn, sympathetic characters caught in bad situations.

Loved loved loved it

This book was really funny and entertaining. I loved all the main characters. Paul & Bridget were my favorite. I don't know how much I trust Bunny as of yet, but will continue to listen to these stories to see how he progresses as a character. This was my first time listening to the narrator and the first book I've experienced from this author.

The accent that the narrator does for Bunny is unique to Cork. It is not atrocious, abominable, nor disgusting. To say that the narrator butchers the Irish accent is incorrect; he does all the Irish accents well.

Highly entertaining!

This book is the perfect combination of great story and great narrator. The book is so funny and the narrator takes advantage of every tongue-in-cheek line. The characters are highly entertaining and unique, emphasized by the fabulous narration. I’ll be looking up other books by this author and narrator!

Dublin Trilogy

The first book in the Dublin Trilogy is a fast and terribly funny crime caper. This series has a different narrator than Stranger Times, but both of them do a great job with McDonnell’s snappy prose. Highly recommended.

Make it to Dorothy

I struggled a bit with this in the beginning, but once Dorothy entered to book, I was hooked.

Nice steady pace that finishes in a flash

I don't read/listen to this type of book often, but needed a break and change.

Overall I enjoyed the book and the characters. The story had a nice progression and there was a splattering of humor.

My con possibly spoiler ...... stop if concerned

is that there villain goes into his bad guy speech of why this is all occurring. The mystery is not really solved and the whole point of the story is not discovered but instead you get told what the puzzle/mystery is.

This won't stop me from trying another from the author but does put it down to a 3.5 to 4 star.
