Publisher's summary

How much money does it take to quit your job? Exhausted and on the verge of burnout, Janice poses this question to herself as she doodles on a notepad at her desk. Surprisingly, the answer isn't as daunting as she expected. With a little math and a lot of determination, Janice cuts back, saves up, and buys herself two years of freedom in Europe. A few days into her stop in Paris, Janice meets Christophe, the cute butcher down the street - who doesn't speak English. Through a combination of sign language and Franglais, they embark on a whirlwind Paris romance. She soon realizes that she can never return to the world of 12-hour workdays and greasy corporate lingo. But her dwindling savings force her to find a way to fund her dreams again. So Janice turns to her three loves - words, art, and Christophe - to figure out a way to make her happily-ever-after in Paris last forever.

Thought provoking

This is not the kind of book I usually read. (no plot or mystery) but I loved this book!

Joie De Vivre

Reads like a joie de vivre memoir. Fun listen whilst driving. Some good advice in it.

Heartwarming and Delicous

The story really picks up after Ch9 so don’t abandon it. Also, get the book in print if you can. The drawings of her painted letters, inspired by the art of Percy Kelly melted my heart. Macleod’s (of the clan MacLeod ;-) account of seeing (really seeing) The Mona Lisa stuck with me while her comparison of lovers to gelato was so funny and the journey to her true self was heartwarming. Glad I gave it a listen!

Interesting. No plot.

Interesting book, not much in the way. Good to have on in the background while you do other things.

Enjoyable listen

It's not a life changing book, but it's sweet and provides good escapism. Good for a commute or plane trip.

A wonderful escape into the warmth of Paris

A truly lovely and inspiring memoir of how one woman found the courage and determination to leave her corporate job and follow her dream of exploring Paris. it includes the nitty gritty of how she funded her change of life and prepared for it, as well as her joy in the life she built for herself in Paris. I loved hearing of her focus and determination, as well as her exploration of her new life. I rationed my listening of this because I never wanted it to end. Sadly, it did. But I've bought her travel journal to read and subscribed to the letters so I can continue to enjoy her journey. And I know I'll be listening to this again. Amazing book. I just wish there had been a PDF with some of the pictures and letters she mentions.

Loved it!

The story was adorable, romantic, funny and well-written! The narrator was one of my favorites, really made me feel like the author was sitting across the table from me at a café, telling me her life story!

Intersting content but found nsrrator annoying in a vague way.

Did not like voice of narrator. It sound like someone frm the mid West. Just should have been an bit more up market.

If you’re a Francophile…

If you’re a Francophile and dream of moving to Paris, you’ll love this book. Not only is it a love story, but provides very practical financial advice on how to follow your dreams and how to make the commitments and changes necessary to successfully leave behind a life you are not happy with.
