About this listen

In this novel of social drama, a casual murder in the small Georgia town of Cotton Point just after World War II, and the resulting court case, cleave open the ugly divisions of race and class.

The man accused of shooting a black girl, a storekeeper named Paris Trout, has no great feeling of guilt, nor any fear that the system will fail to work his way. Trout becomes an embarrassment to the polite white society that prefers to hold itself high above such primitive prejudice. But the trial does not allow any avoidance of the stark reality of social and racial tensions.

This book seems unfinished not sure why they put an abridged version. It’s not that long of a book to begin with. Maybe there were things in it they censored so we couldn’t read it I don’t understand censorship

This book is abridged I wouldn’t have purchased it had I know

be careful the audio vision is a bridged if you're comparing notes with someone who's reading it

The book seemed unfinished, there were stories left undone and untold. The reader was distracting, he over pronounced words and under inflected tones. It was difficult to finish but I was waiting for it to get better.

I saw the movie many years ago and though it was harsh and tragic it was better than the book, oddly enough. I chose the book because I thought I would get more of the back story but that was not the case they were totally mismatched.

Not what I expected

This is one of my favorite books! I’ve read it about 4 times, and wanted to read it once more, but opted for the audible version this time. I’m pretty disappointed because this is most definitely an abridged version, but it is not advertised this way. Had I known it wasn’t the full story, I would not have purchased this copy. The book doesn’t make sense when you leave parts out!

The book is 300 pages long. I didn’t know this audiobook was an abridged version. I generally avoid abridged audiobooks.
