About this listen

Electronic mechanic Jennings wakes up with no memory of the past two years of his life, except that he had agreed to work for Retherick Construction. Payment for his services, now completed, is a bag of seemingly worthless objects: a code key, a ticket stub, a receipt, a length of wire, half a poker chip, a piece of green cloth, and a bus token. But when he is confronted by the Special Police, who seem to be investigating Retherick for their own reasons, Jennings finds himself running for his life, realizing that the "worthless" objects are the key to unlocking his recent past, and ensuring that he has a future.Paycheck is also contained in the short story collection Minority Report and Other Stories, by Philip K. Dick.©1987 The Estate of Philip K. Dick; 2003 HarperCollinsPublishers, Inc. (P)2001 HarperCollinsPublishers, Inc. Fantasy Fiction Science Fiction

Critic reviews

"Narrator Dullea does a fine job of evoking the story's tension as well as Jennings' puzzlement over his situation." (Publishers Weekly)

Not as good as the movie.

So far everything that I have by Philip K Dick isn't as good as their filmatic counterpart. Nearly all the storied of his that i have read or listened to see like very interesting ideas that needed minor tweaking or fleshing out to be great.

Paycheck (1953) by Philip Kindred Dick was great

Paycheck was a very suspensful thought-provoking tension-packed intense interesting enjoyable well-written great short story by Philip K Dick much better than the terrible critical and box office failure science-fiction action drama thriller film adaptation Paycheck starring Ben Affleck Uma Thurman and Aaron Eckhart and Produced & Directed by John Woo who is an action movie director who directed popular action movies such as Mission: Impossible II AKA M:I-2, Face/Off, and Broken Arrow

The genre of the movie adaptation of Philip Kindred Dick's famous popular unforgettable iconic beloved worldwide phenomenal timeless classic science fiction short story Paycheck was like The Matrix Film Franchise which both the movies are extremely different but they are both science fiction action drama thriller movies.

Paycheck The Movie had Terrible CGI Special Effects, Terrible Acting, Terrible Action Scenes, Terrible Story, and it was a huge critical and box office failure! Some people have seen the movie Paycheck and liked it but Paycheck The Movie was garbage I rather like and enjoy blockbuster smash hit worldwide cultural phenomal timeless classic iconic beloved unforgettable famous popular films Spider-Man Film Trilogy Directed by Sam Rami The Dark Knight Film Trilogy Directed by Christopher Nolan X-Men Film Series and The Matrix Film Series better than Paycheck The Movie

The short story Paycheck had got me on the edge of my seat and grab my attention, also Phillip Kindred Dick's Paycheck was fun intense and suspensful

Typical Philip K. Dick story

My DH says we saw the movie, but I don't remember it. The same goes for this story, it is a typical Philip K. Dick story. Short and stunted. Some of his short stories are very good, but most try and trick you. Maybe in the 60's, but now they are just pre-dick-able.
