About this listen

“Fall’s most provocative YA read.” (Entertainment Weekly)

A New York Times best seller.

Someone will shoot. And someone will die.

A compelling and complex novel about gun violence and white supremacy from number one New York Times best-selling author Ellen Hopkins.

People kill people. Guns just make it easier.

A gun is sold in the classifieds after killing a spouse, bought by a teenager for needed protection. But which was it? Each has the incentive to pick up a gun, to fire it. Was it Rand or Cami, married teenagers with a young son? Was it Silas or Ashlyn, members of a white supremacist youth organization? Daniel, who fears retaliation because of his race, who possessively clings to Grace, the love of his life? Or Noelle, who lost everything after a devastating accident, and has sunk quietly into depression?

One tense week brings all six people into close contact in a town wrought with political and personal tensions. Someone will fire. And someone will die. But who?

I get like a little kid on Christmas when I discover a new book from Ellen Hopkins, honestly one of my all time favorite authors! I've read every single book, & she never disappoints. She actually ceases to amaze me over & over again, This was my first audible listen for an Ellen Hopkins book, if it is at all possible, the narrator brought the characters more to life! I read crank over 12+ years ago & I still to this day, find myself going back & re-reading all her masterpieces. Basically if you haven't had the pleasure to enjoy one of her books, your missing out!

Ellen You've done it again!

Ellen Hopkins has been one of my favorite authors since 2008! Her writing style immerses you into not only the story but also the characters. Her books never disappoint.

I love everything Ellen Hopkins does. This is the first one of hers I've listened too. The narrator's performance was phenomenal.

Love

Great story that puts you into the mind of the characters in a way I didn't expect. I was recommended this book by a friend and listened to it without reading the synopsis, I found myself wishing a few times I had. The book truly made me uncomfortable, in the best "makes you think" kind of way. There were a few moments that made me consider stop listening but that was due to my own personal triggers. If you have experienced sexual trauma in your life proceed with caution.

Great story, made me uncomfortable in a good way.

While the story was very intriguing I found the narrator being one of my favorites so far. He gave the characters more depth and feeling than I would have taken away from only reading the physical book.
I enjoyed the diverse perspectives of each character and felt like the book ended well; no loose ends or lingering “why’s”.
Another wonderful story from Ellen Hopkins!

Great narration and interesting story

Ellen Hopkins, does it again with an immersive story with very provocative characters. The narrator is also a protagonist quickly becomes a your favorite storyteller ever. Once you start this book, you won’t want to stop until the last page. And even then you’ll still want more.
