About this listen

Marcus Mosiah Garvey Jr. (1887-1940) was a Jamaican political activist, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator. The Philosophy and Opinions of Marcus Garvey (1923) is a collection of his speeches, setting out his vision of a united Africa.

As an early proponent of the Back-to-Africa movement, he encouraged a sense of pride and self-worth among Africans and the African diaspora. Garvey deplored the view of poverty as a virtue and encourages Blacks to be empowered in every sphere of their lives. He considers poverty an abasement and propagates success in one’s daily endeavors, and emphasized prosperity in the individual’s life, measured not only in material but also in spiritual terms.

Long Live Marcus Garvey.

This is audio book has a misalignment of the book's ACTUAL table of contents. Chapter 2 cuts off in the middle of his sentence. This is very disappointing given the fact that this a very important part of history. The man reading has a nice voice but he pauses at weird moments. His cadence is very confusing to follow and dull.

isn't the real copy.

3 Chapters of thoughts regarding race relations, the struggle of the Negro and arguments of peace. You received a general idea of what Garvey was interested in in regards to humanity, peace and the Independence of the Negro.

The narration was also well delivered and performed.

It's amazing how those who control what you learn can control your destiny. That is one of the most powerful weapons on the planet. I have always considered Garvey in a negative fashion and was told that he was a buffoon. Reading his works show him as a brilliantman ahead of his time.

Surprised!
