About this listen

”It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a man in possession of a wife, must be in want of a good fortune.”

There is much excitement in Longlawn when two men with tall hats enter the district. Mothers buy new dresses for their daughters, fathers polish up on their fencing skills, and Mr. Bonnet tackles the perilous journey through the stinging nettles to call upon the new occupants of Nettlefield Park.

The ditsy Jane Bonnet soon falls for Mr. Blingley with all his gold jewellery, but her sister, the ever-prodigious Lizzy, very much dislikes Mr. Blingley's friend, Mr. Dicey, whose pied coat and tall hat strike fear into the local populace.

This is a story of excessive fashion, high heels, large wardrobes, tall hats - oh, and romance!

Author's Note: This audiobook is an abridged light parody of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

An Hilariously Clever Spoof of a Great Classic

If you could sum up Pied and Prodigious in three words, what would they be?

Fun, witty and enjoyable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pied and Prodigious?

While it was a continuous journey of humor as the characters and name choices spun a delightful recounting of Jane Austen's original. But I think I most enjoyed the characterization of Mr Blingley and his baubles as he was progressively "weighed down".

What does Rebecca Roberts bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rebecca did an amazing job of bringing each of the characters to life in a charming manner. Her characterizations were remarkable and made the book extremely entertaining. It was fun listening to her give each individual their own life and her accents were great. She also spoke with a clarity that was very easy to listen to.

If you could take any character from Pied and Prodigious out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Obviously Lizzy, due to her straightforward attitude toward life.

Any additional comments?

I thought this was a great tribute to the original while creating a great deal of humor and enjoyment. The narration by Rebecca Roberts made it only the more enjoyable and brought life to the book. Mr Andrews did an excellent job of presenting the original story line with a fun twist.
