About this listen

Nova Scotia, 1952. Not exactly the place you'd expect to run into pirates. But an old mariner, his boat driven ashore in a gale, brings with him enough stories about buccaneers and their lore to make it seem that he must have had firsthand experience of the pirate life. But how is that possible? Captain Charles Johnson's uncanny knowledge of seamanship's dark side fuels the imagination of the young boy he befriends, setting the boy on his own journey of mysterious adventure.

I rarely write reviews. I'm a 33 year old man and this book was so enjoyable I had to make sure everyone knew how fun it was to listen to. If you want a feel good story this is the one you need to try!

First saw movie on Netflix by same title then searched out book. Numerous differences between the two, but both were hauntingly fun!

This Book, Story and Narrator that was used for the Audible presentation was excellent! The whole time you feel like you are right there with Jim and Captain Johnson. Great for all ages. Like everyone else, we would love a follow up book by the author!

Excellent story for any age!

Great YA story for all. The pirate tales are very accurate so full of good history for the whole family. Am an older adult and thoroughly enjoyed the tales, coming of age and life’s challenges. Narration was very good too.

Great pirate yarn

This was a fun listen and might especially appeal to children 8 to 10. Interesting info on pirates tied into a family story, with an appropriate dose of mystery. An adult will know where it's all going, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Look at this to read with your (grand)kids

Play frequent listener of spy and military stories I was not sure if I would actually like this. I got into the story fairly quickly and it did capture my imagination. It did not end as I anticipated, which I like. It was good for the long miles that I drive for work. I would recommend this story to young and old alike.

I really liked it.
