Skadi first met her husband-to-be with blades in hand on the opposite side of a battle. She lost, and he claimed his prize. To her horror, the king of the shadow elven agrees to marry her off to Jonas, a prince in the fae realms, as a way to unite their kingdoms against a shared enemy—the light elves. Skadi knows the marriage is nothing but a political game. Feelings won't come into play. Except her new husband makes not falling in love... challenging. Orphaned. Trained to fight. Raised to fear the power of Underhill. Secretly in love with a man who doesn’t want me. I’m still just Alli, a.k.a. the half-human orphan fae, but my life is looking up for the first time. It only took me my whole 24 years. But when Underhill - the ancestral home of the fae - shatters, making it impossible for any fae to enter, I’m the only one who knows who did it. A secret that will be the death of me if I do nothing.

Story
Just hours after humans are born, the gods take what little power we have. In return, they protect our borders from the vicious, merciless fae. The humans who manage to keep their power are known as the corrupt. And they are burned. When my forbidden power is discovered, I’m forced to flee my tiny village and the life I adore. To survive, I make a desperate bargain with the mercenary who abandoned me at my weakest moment. Our deal is simple: I’ll help him and his mysterious friends sneak into the city, and he’ll help me learn to wield the strange, dark power I’ve always kept hidden.

Fun, family-friendly listen!
The Djinn Kingdom is a fun, adventurous, fantastical, piratey story that I have thoroughly enjoyed! What I especially liked about this story is that on certain plot points where the author COULD have gone darker, it was kept just sinister enough to be exciting without venturing into territory where I wouldn't want my kids listening too! Natalie's narration is wonderful; her voice is pleasant to listen to, and her characterization is fantastic! (Love all the pirate voices! That must have been fun to record!) Would definitely recommend to others.
