About this listen

They stole his crown. So, he stole their daughter…

For years, Erik, the scarred king of the Ever Kingdom, has thought of nothing but vengeance against the man who killed his father and trapped him beneath the waves, making him a prisoner in his own realm.

Until his enemy's daughter unintentionally breaks the chains on the Ever, and Erik makes her the unwitting pawn in his vicious game of revenge.

She's innocent. He's vicious. He will take back what he lost, no matter the price. Unless she steals his heart first.

Welcome to the passionate world of the Ever Kingdom, where pirates, sirens, and fae collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a villain and the innocent princess who holds his heart.

This book ends on a cliffhanger. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series but can be listened to independently.

Loved!!!

This has been on my TBR for awhile now. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long! Amazing. I enjoyed every moment of this story! A fantastic romantasy that keeps you hooked. And that ending!!! Whew!!!

The narrators absolutely killed it as well. I loved how they brought both their characters to life. I felt like I was a part of the story. I felt everything they felt. It was amazing and truly a beautiful job well done!

4.5⭐️

I was absolutely hooked on this book from the beginning!! I do think it could be seen as starting off slow with world building, but I do love that it is set in the same world as the Broken Kingdom series and having read those books, a lot of aspects weren’t unfamiliar to me.

I am an actual simp for Erik and love him despite his troubled past/present. And I also love how he’s so possessive and also wanting to change things for the better. I love that he finds his Songbird and admire how strong she is when fighting for herself and what is right.

That cliffhanger at the end has me immediately jumping into the next book!

Audio performance ruined it for me

I waited months for this to be released only to be wildly disappointed by the audio performance. I cannot take these accents and intonations seriously. It makes a farce or if a fantastic book.

A solid story

The Ever King is a romantasy that feels like an epic pirate meets princess tail. It was interesting and solid romance. The plot was good, but it took too long to get to the point.

Narration is distracting

Female narrator was okay. Male narrator reminded me of Jorah from Games of Thrones and sounded too old for the character. But can we please stop normalizing female narrators doing weird gruff male voices, and vice versa? What on earth. So bad.

Story might be decent; I’m 1/3 done and will likely DNF. It’s just not intriguing or complex enough to warrant dealing with the narration.

The Ever King 4.5 stars

A young Earth fae girl and daughter to the Earth fae king, named Livia befriends a young Ever fae boy named Erik, who is a prisoner in her family’s kingdom. She tells him a story about a little songbird and a serpent who, despite being mortal enemies, become friends.

Many years later, the Earth Fae have been living in peace since locking the portal to the Ever kingdom, and the Ever fae with it. All of that changes, when a secret bond between two young fae unknowingly unlocks the portal and calls to the Ever King, who has been waiting to take vengeance on his prisoners.

When Erik and his Ever crew surface, they make a plan to kill the Earth fae king. But their plans change when they learn that the king has left, along with the rest of his court, leaving his daughter vulnerable.

This Romantasy is extremely well written and had some amazing character development and tension, making it difficult to put down. It also contained some of my favorite tropes, including:

🗡️ Enemies to lovers
☠️ Morally gray MMC - “touch her and die” and “you’re mine” vibes
💔 Forbidden love
🔐 Forced proximity
🤫 Secret identity

Even though though all the characters were different species of fae, the Ever King and his crew were definitely giving me strong Pirate vibes, if you are into that. 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

If you are a Romantasy lover, I highly recommend The Ever King, book #1 of the Ever Seas series. Book #2, The Ever Queen and book #3, The Mist Thief are already out with book #4, The Stollen Crown has a release date of September 16, 2024.

I never knew I needed pirate fantasy until now!

Absolutely epic start to a series! This book has all the goods: fantasy, romance, PIRATES, broody men and sassy women, and a story that kept me on my toes the whole time. It was easy to fall in love with almost every character I met, even the ones who I still am not sure I actually like, and the world Andrews has created had me reaching for a Pirates of the Caribbean rewatch so fast. I never knew I needed pirate fantasy before, and now I’m not sure I’ll ever get enough.
