Publisher's summary
This book adopts some of the basic rules of golf as a metaphor for life and argues that life is a game that can be played successfully. The work then enumerates some basic rules of life (21 in total) and shows how others have followed and violated these rules to their ultimate victory or defeat. Many references are culled from popular culture both here in North America and abroad. There are autobiographical snippets along the way to add authenticity to the project. I believe this is an important work in that it offers a path of life that is freed from the rigors and confusion of religion as well as the academic, heady malaise in which philosophy presently finds itself.

Twenty years ago, Jerry Sittser lost his daughter, wife, and mother in a car accident. He chronicled that tragic experience in A Grace Disguised, a book that has become a classic on the topic of grief and loss.
Now he asks: How do we live meaningfully, even fruitfully, in this world and at the same time long for heaven? How do we respond to the paradox of being a new creature in Christ even though we don’t always feel or act like one? How can we trust God is involved in our story when our circumstances seem to say he isn’t?

Story
In Experiencing Spirituality, Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham take listeners on a journey through storytelling as a means of self-discovery. Recounting and interpreting great wisdom stories from all ages and all cultures, as well as telling many of their own, the authors shed light on such experiences as awe, wonder, humor, confusion, and forgiveness. In story after story, seekers look to those whose lives reveal a special quality - sometimes called spirituality - and ask the masters what they must do to attain that same quality.

Blending memoir and polemic with close readings of her favorite novels, she describes the unexpected journey that led her to become an American citizen after first dreaming of America as a young girl in Tehran and coming to know the country through its fiction. She urges us to rediscover the America of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and challenges us to be truer to the words and spirit of the Founding Fathers, who understood that their democratic experiment would never thrive or survive unless they could foster a democratic imagination.

This stunningly personal document and extraordinary history of the turbulent '60s and early '70s displays James Baldwin's fury and despair more deeply than any of his other works. In vivid detail he remembers the Harlem childhood that shaped his early consciousness, the later events that scored his heart with pain - the murders of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, his sojourns in Europe and in Hollywood, and his return to the American South to confront a violent America face-to-face.

Story
Most of us have no idea where we're going most of the time. Perfect. "Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit - An Geadh-Glas, or 'the Wild Goose.' The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it's like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something.

Life is a Game: Here’s how to win
If you could sum up Play It Where It Lies! in three words, what would they be?
“Life is a game.” That is the harsh reality which forms the basis of the foundation of “Play It Where It Lies: Golf As A Metaphor for Life,” an insightful and engaging book by Don E. Peavy, Sr., an emerging author from Fort Worth, Texas. Because life is a game, there are rules which if followed will help one to succeed at the game of life and if disobeyed will carry frightful consequences, writes Peavy.
He uses many of the rules of golf as the brick and mortar with which he constructs 21 rules of successful living. Along the way, Peavy gives clear and convincing stories of people who obeyed those rules and achieved success as well as people who violated the rules and suffered dire consequences. For instant, one of the most dramatic stories comes from Great Britain where a trustee of a young lady attempts to punish her and she runs away from home. When his neighbors start asking questions as to the whereabouts of the young girl the trustee makes up stories that she is visiting relatives. But as time passes and the young girl does not return home, the man then resorts to an elaborate scheme to have someone dress up as his niece. This subterfuge is eventually discovered and the trustee is arrested and charged with the murder of his niece. He is convicted and hanged. One year to the date of his hanging his niece returns home. The trustee violated the rule: “Shortcuts often lead to long suffering” and paid the ultimate price of those who violate the rules of life.
Although I am not a fan of golf, I learned a lot about the sport in reading this book. I came to a deep appreciation of golf even as I learned the rules of life and committed myself to following them so that I can enjoy success and avoid the dire consequences such at that suffered by the trustee and the three young men who got caught trying to steal a Christmas tree and each ended up spending over $1,000.00 each for a tree neither of them got to enjoy.
Life is a game. Peavy offers us a compelling set of rules for playing this game successful. You did not have a choice in entering the game of life. You do however, have a choice in whether you win or lose at this game. Listening to Peavy’s book is a necessary first step towards your success.

How insightful and enlightening!
This book was so deep and thought provoking. Each chapter presented fresh and new food for thought that I had never envisioned. Mr. Peavy laid out ideas and life perspectives that make sense, although they are not common everyday ways of looking at life or examining our actions and choices or their results. I have been led to agree that life, like golf, has a much better outcome when we play it where it lies instead of fudging. From a spiritual perspective, I believe that there are rewards or consequences for each of our thoughts and actions. I also believe that we are tested in our choices to see how strong is our faith and our commitment to God. Honesty is the best and shortest course to true success, even when it seems that shortcuts and dishonesty will get quicker and more successful results. I thoroughly listening to the audio version of this book, and will gladly recommend it to others. Congratulations Mr. Don Peavy on another mind altering narrative!
