About this listen

I chose a championship over love.

When Nova smashed her way into my hardened heart, she showed me there’s more to life than basketball.

She taught me patience and forgiveness. With her help, my Kodiak teammates became brothers instead of rivals. For the first time, I cared about more than a game.

But one mistake sent me crashing from all-star to rock bottom.

Broken inside and out, there’s no one to blame but myself.

I won’t let the people I love suffer for my mistakes, on or off the court. I’ll win back the brothers who trusted me, the city that backed me, and the woman I don’t want to live without.

Unless I’m too late.

I have one last shot. One last chance.

Countdown's on, and I’m playing for keeps.

Play Maker is the third and final book in the King of the Court series. Clay and Nova’s steamy, addictive grumpy sunshine sports romance begins in Game Changer and continues in Shot Taker.

What a journey!

Clay and Nova have made it to the home stretch. Umm... final quarter (since this is a basketball romance), except it's the final third of the trilogy. Eh, however you wanna say it. It amounts to the same thing for this couple: we finally get to the HEA. I don't feel like I'm giving anything away with that little tidbit since we all expected it. Besides, it's the journey that makes it all worthwhile, and this pair has earned that HEA. The whole trilogy has been full of ups and downs with all the feels to match. That said, it hasn't all been angsty and full of heartbreak. I mean, Clay and Nova had to be good together for us to want them to stay that way, and they are really good together. The chemistry is crazy good, and they generate enough steam to peel the paint off the walls. That's the thing - when you love as hard as Nova and Clay, there are going to be some hiccups and growing pains along the way. Those hiccups just made their whole story that much more believable for me, even if I did go through my share of grumbling when things went sideways. You might ask if it was worth it. We are talking about 16+ hours listening time between the three parts of the story, and I'd have to say it very definitely was worth it. I was invested in this pair before the first book ended, and I absolutely couldn't get enough of them.
It doesn't hurt that Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins give voice to these characters, and they do it quite well. In my opinion, the performances of these narrators only add to the listen, and when you combine those performances with Piper Lawson's storytelling talent, you have a winning combination.

Good conclusion

Play Maker is the book three and the conclusion to the King of the Court series. It was another really good sports romance.

Clay and Nova’s journey picks up where book two left off. The uncertainty of their new circumstances, leave them on rocky ground. I felt it showed great growth for both main characters individually, and it allowed their connection to strengthen just as much. Their chemistry was just as combustible as before and I loved their ending.

Carly Robins and Lance Greenfield did another great job narrating.

Clay and Nova’s finally. This is the third and final book in the series. It has been one hell of a ride with lots of ups and downs that put me through an emotional rollercoaster.

The narrators were AMAZING!!! I loved them and how they told they story. I got lost in listening I was so engrossed. They are perfect examples of how skilled narrators can level up a story.

Definitely recommend this series just prepare for the journey.

Sports Romance

Play Maker by Piper Lawson is a grumpy sunshine sports romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins. This is the third book in the King of the Court series.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Clay and Nova. Their relationship was messy, but I couldn't help but root for them. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

I can't wait for the novella that will be released on March 26, 2024.

Lance and Carly did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this series if you’re looking for a grumpy sunshine romance, sports romance, or contemporary romance.

Great Ending for this series!

This is a terrific ending for Clay and Novas story. It takes you through the ups and downs of them moving to L.A. and the fallout from that. To the great story wrap up that concludes this trilogy.

Once again Lance Greenfield and Carly Robbins were amazing narrators for this book. They pull you right in and keep you in the story the whole time.

I was given an ALC to listen to and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Clay and Nova

Clay and Nova went through their ups and downs from the start of the series. Lance and Carly throughout the series have done a good job there were moments in book two that Lance was a little bland for me but in this book he did alot better. Perhaps it had more to do with the storyline.

The story has them face different challenges but they also still grow individually and as a couple. I enjoy the side characters Brook and Miles too their banter is comical. Narrating was good and I enjoyed more in this installment.

5 She’s His Rainbow Stars

The conclusion of Clay and Nova was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. This book picks up where we left off in Shot Taker with Clay and Nova being in Los Angeles after a surprising trade that neither of them thought was going to happen.

This new location changed their relationship in ways neither of them were expecting. I loved how Nova supported Clay even if he didn’t feel he sometimes didn’t deserve it. Their dynamic changes as this book progresses thanks to things neither of them have control over including Clay’s connection or lack thereof with his new team. As the saying goes, things aren’t always greener on the other side! One thing I especially loved about this book is the fact that Nova gets a chance to really be the artist she’s meant to be and she’s embraced by some very important and influential people in their new circle.

There are some hard realities that Clay needs to face and decisions need to be made that will once again change their relationship. Seeing the growth that Clay goes through from the first book to this last book was astonishing and actually made me love him that much more. Desires are heightened and dreams and goals may just come true if Clay can get out of his own way and acknowledge what needs to be done for everyone to be happy.

Lance Greenfield and Carly Robbins once again do a fabulous job of bringing the characters and story to life. The minute I started this book I was captivated because I NEEDED to find out if everything comes full circle for our H/h. I’m not giving anything away though; you’ll just need to listen to this amazing book and series. I’m so excited to see what’s next for the Denver Kodiaks!

Emotional and Sizzling Romance!

Play Maker is the angsty, and steamy conclusion to Clay, and Nova's rollercoaster love story. When Clay finally achieves his dream to play in LA, it just might not be a sweet as he thought it would be. He is nearing the end of his career and he is not happy with his decisions. Nova moved to LA with him and is trying to make a life for them there. But when Clay closes up on her, she feels disheartened and lost. She gave up being with her friends and family in Denver to support Clay, and now she feels more alone than ever. Will they be strong enough to fight for each other and find their happiness again? I loved how Nova continued to grow and took control of her life. I was a bit disappointed with Clay shutting down after he fought to find his love for the game again and for Nova, but loved how he found his way back to them both.
Lance Greenfield and Carly Robins continue their wonderful narration of this story. They do a great job evolving Clay, and Nova's turbulent relationship thru their rollercoaster journey making me feel all the angst, heartbreak, and passion they felt. I was completely captivated by their performance.
