About this listen

One brilliant young hacker. One experimental government aircraft. One chance to keep it all from going up in flames.

Still recovering from her troubled past, Farris is no stranger to change. But when the military transfers her father across the country to an experimental aircraft squadron, settling in to a new life is the least of her problems. As a series of apparent computer glitches threaten the security of the fleet and the blame falls on her father, she decides to put her computer skills to use, digging up the truth. Soon she's drawn into the perilous world of a hacker who is determined to ground the fleet - at any cost.

When all signs lead to someone close to her as the mastermind, Farris will have to burn more than bridges to get to the truth. She will have to risk her fragile new life to uncover the identity of the cybercriminal before they can escalate from harmless tampering...to all out murder.

Awesome

Where does Playing with Fire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very much at the Top

What other book might you compare Playing with Fire to and why?

The only other book I've read about Hackers is Meredith Wilds Hacker series even though it is a completely different genre of book so I'm going to say I would compare it to them. Ones young adult and the other adult

What does Moira Todd bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings Farris alive she lets you see everything happening in your minds eye with her reading.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I thought it was fabulous it made me gasp at one point in the book

Any additional comments?

I got this book from Sherry for a honest review. This is a great book. It's got mystery and intrigue also military secrets. I loved how Farris would do anything to help her dad. the best thing though was no cliffhanger this part of the book ended well now in need book 2 to read more of Farris' story

4 Platypires

I already read both this book and the sequel when I was offered a chance to review the audio version in exchange for an honest review.

Already knowing what was going to happen well in advance, it made this much that much more enjoyable. I caught a few things I didn't my first go round... so that's a thing.

One thing that really amused me about Moira Todd is how much she reminded me of Velma from Scooby Doo. I have no idea if that was intentional, but it fits Farris so much – her being a computer genius and whatnot.

I think she really brought out the story in a positive light. There were parts of the ebook that annoyed me a bit when I read them, but it felt more acceptable while I listened to the audio version.

I do hope Moira Todd is going to narrate the second book, In Too Deep, as well.

Loved it

This is one of the most entertaining mysteries I've read this year. I was guessing and fully engaged from 1st click.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!

This blew me out of the water. I was so surprised at how much I loved this book! It had all the right elements to it--drama, angst, kicka**ary, technology, romance, suspense, danger, and overall excitement. I am so glad I got the chance to listen to this audiobook. My podcast will be doing a longer (verbal) review of this series and the episode will be featuring the author and the narrator of books 2+3, but I will say that this narrator wasn't bad either!! Todd really embraced the cool, down to earth, chick that was Ferris. She didn't put too much emotion into her voice, but Ferris, to me, is relaxed and calm--something I got from Moira Todd.

The story though, omg, I literally am starting book 2 when I finish this review. I loved it!! The story gave me Mr. Robot meets Veronica Mars kinda feel and I was all for it! I don't even like computer stuff (which is why I was nervous to read it) but the author really knows how to suck you into the story using other aspects of the plot. Even though I didn't understand anything the characters were saying about hacking into systems and explosive chemicals, I never felt lost at all.

Loved this book and please give it a try!! So well written!

Great young adult story

This was the perfect mix of mystery, romance, and humor. The story is told from the point of view of Ferris, a smart, quick witted high schooler who just happens to be a hacker genius. It tackles themes of bullying, mental illness, and sexual assault in an authentic way. But the romance and humor doesn't disappoint either. Would recommend for teens.
