About this listen

Like many girls, I too used to dream of fairytales.

Until that illusion was shattered, and I saw firsthand just how cruel life could be.

Now I just wished my nightmare would end.

The life I knew ceased to exist as I suffered at the hands of my stepmother, who hated me.

I fought to escape and once I did, I thought life would become normal again, but that couldn't have been further from the truth.

Tragedy was woven in my bloodstream, hiding in my DNA structure. I had a sliver of peace before it all went to hell again.

I stumbled across the men who were sent to assassinate me.

They became my tormentors until someone from my past showed up.

Instead of killing me, we made a new deal.

In exchange for helping me claim my empire back, they wanted me as payment.

I trusted them until I was betrayed.

Snow White got her happily ever after.

But me? I wondered if Id ever get mine.

Note: Poisoned Throne is a don't have to choose romance with some possible triggers. Please listen to the Author's Note at the beginning of the book before listening because there are some elements that are not suitable for some.

Triggers: Again listen to the Author's Note for the extra ones NOT listed here. MM, mental and physical abuse, violence and kidnapping.

I think I've just discovered a new fave author...

I took a chance on this one, being unfamiliar with the author and I think she’s a new favorite of mine.

Told in alternating first-person POVs, this drops the reader right into a very dark world, where a young queen has to fight just to survive, let alone maintain anything else—like her wealth and family legacy, etc.

I loved the female lead, for the most part. She is only 17 years old, yet is brilliant and free-thinking and very self-aware. (I did find this plausible for the situations she was raised in / and then found herself in.)

🍎 Fairytale retelling.
🩸 Captivity.
🍎 V!irgin heroine.
🩸 T0rture.
🍎 Fresh starts.
🩸 Bratva.
🍎 Inc3st.
🩸 Assä$$ins.
🍎 Banter.
🩸 Dubcon.
🍎 Group scenes.
🩸 DDLG 🥴.
🩸 Vengeance.
🍎 Secrets.

Overall:
This made me a fan of this author. Please excuse me while I run off to find the rest of their works.
4 stars.

🎧Audio:
The audio is absolutely amazing—what a beautiful voice this narrator has! And she manages to make it sound almost full-cast, with her accents and altered voices for different characters. Amazing. 5 stars. 🦩

Dark Reverse Harem Romance

Poisoned Throne by Nikita is a dark reverse harem romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Ash Kingsley and Benjamin Sands.

This is the first book of Nikita's that I have read it and won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Adelaide, Maxcen, Carter, Blaze, Cage, Declan, Silas, and Daemon.

I really enjoyed that we got Adelaide, Maxcen, Carter, Blaze, Cage, Declan, Silas, Daemon, and Ravanna's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I originally read the book when it was first released and was so excited when I saw that it was coming to audio. Ash and Benjamin did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you're looking for a dark romance, reverse harem romance, forbidden romance, or modern-day fairytale retellings.

I am in love with this book. One of the better retellings of Snow White. She was such a bad a$$ and the further you get in the book the more bad a$$ she gets. Also Silas yes please lol.

Poisoned Throne

Poisoned Thrown is A Twisted Tales Novel. This was my first book by Nikita, but defiantly not going to be my last. This was an amazing reverse harem, dark romance retelling of Snow White. I was hooked from the very beginning.

Ash Kingsley and Benjamin Sands did a fantastic job narrating this book.

Hate and Revenge!

This story has a little bit of everything in it. If you're looking for a sweet Snow White retelling, then this definitely isn't it. It is very dark with lots of trigger warnings. It is full of violence, revenge and all kinds of spicy scenes. It had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. If you like twisted reverse harem fairy tales with a side of taboo, then this is probably for you. Ash Kingsley and Benjamin Sands both did an excellent job bringing this story to life.

Darkest I've listened to

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Nikita. It was the darkest I've listened to, at least in a long while. All the characters had heart breaking, deprived, devastating backgrounds. I was sick over it, and had to pause this a few times. The storyline is tragic although it ends with a HEA. The characters didn't endure to my heart, but I was invested in the outcome. Heed the warnings...childhood sexual abuse, among others.

The narrators are newer to me. They performed with emotion that had it rolling like a movie in my head. Excellent performances!

A very dark and twisted, why-choose, mafia retelling of Snow White

This is a very dark and twisted, why-choose, mafia retelling of Snow White.
Definitely check trigger warnings before going into this book! This book is hot🔥🫠 lots of good spice and you get a lot of angsty, dark and gritty scenes from multiple povs.

Poisoned Throne

Poisoned Throne is a dark RH fairytale retelling. This book is about Adelaide, Maxcen, Carter, Blaze, Cage, Declan, Silas, and Daemon, and is told from all of their points of view, as well as the evil stepmother.

This book starts out with Adelaide's father dying. She is now stuck with her evil stepmother, who wants the empire her father left. Her father tells her that when she's of age the empire will be hers.

Now almost at the age where she will get the empire, Adelaide's stepmother wants her dead and tells Maxcen to rip out her heart to prove she is gone. Maxcen has feelings for her so he helps her escape and delivers a different heart.

When Adelaide's stepmother finds out she is still alive she hires the serpents to take her and Maxcen out. However, the serpents are Maxcen's band of brothers, and they want to know why Adelaide and Maxcen are a target.

Once the serpents get a hold of Adelaide they start to have feelings for her. But her stepmother still has people out for her and Maxcen. Can the serpents keep Adelaide and Maxcen safe? Will Adelaide get her happy ending with all of these guys? I loved the relationship and banter between all of these characters.

This was my first book by this author, and I can not wait to read more!

A Great Listen

This is a dark retelling of Snow White and you will want to heed the warnings in the beginning of the book. This is a reverse harem read that is forbidden and taboo. There will be things in here that are triggers for some readers. Proceed with caution.
This is one twisted tale of a girl names Adelaide Romanov. The daughter of the head of the Romanov Bratva and he is dying. Before long Adelaide finds herself in a mess with her stepmother who hates her and really wants her dead but she needs her and her fathers will that Adelaide has no idea where is. This is a girl raised in the mafia, so she wouldn't tell even if she did know. But her father told her some things before she died and she knows that at twenty one she will inherit his seat with the Bratva and her stepmother wants it all and will do and kill anyone she has to to get it and keep it. She is so cruel and I promise you are going to hate her with a fiery passion. But along comes Max and he is her savior but she doesn't know it and if they are caught the game will be up for the both of them. And so begins and exciting twisted tale of some broken and fierce character that had me turning the pages well in to the night. I did not want to put this book down.

This was one interesting listen, which I both enjoyed but also had a LOT of questions about. Mostly I just wasn't sure whether or not I liked our FMC. Like she was both smart and dumb at the same time. Like for a girl who was trying to reclaim her kingdom she was doing absolutely nothing for it! Okay she did train to get stronger, but she wasn't really doing anything else, like digging into her stepmom, trying to see why she had such a vendetta against her.

And our 7 dwarfs (or 7 mercenaries) in this case, well, they were a fun bunch but they were psychotic and I was loving it. Though I do believe quite a number of their kinks wasn't explored, so I was not happy with that.

Overall, it was a good read, and I loved the narration as well, so if you're into twisted retellings (or loosely based) of fairytales you'll enjoy this one!
