About this listen
This is the seventh book in the Tyack & Frayne Mystery series.
Lee would gladly trade all his psychic gifts for a chance at ordinary life with his husband and his little girl. Three years into their marriage, they're settled in their new home - but the House of Joy can't shield them from an oncoming threat with the power to uproot their whole world.
Lee can't define it further, and even his beloved Gideon can't unmask a monster with no face at all. Gideon is mired in problems and secrets of his own as he struggles to adjust to his new rank and the complexities of plainclothes police work with CID, and for once the devoted Tyack-Frayne partnership is failing to communicate.
Turbulent times in the world at large reach deep into the Bodmin heartland, and the village of Dark is without its guardian constable. More than Lee and Gideon can possibly know has been depending upon their rapport, and as the summer rises towards the longest day, a new and unfathomable kind of Beast is afoot on the moors....

Priddy's a lost soul in a part of Cornwall the tourists don't get to see. He's young, sweet-natured, and gorgeous, but that's not enough to achieve escape velocity from his deadbeat village and rotten family life. He's a drifter and a dreamer, and self-preservation isn't his strong suit. An accidental overdose of a nightclub drug leaves him fractured, hallucinating, with too many vital circuits fried to function in a tough world. When a friend offers him winter work in a lighthouse, he gratefully accepts.

When his own boss sends in a psychic to help with the case, he's gutted - he's a level-headed copper who doesn't believe in such things, and he can't help but think that the arrival of clairvoyant Lee Tyack is a comment on his failure to find the little girl. Another great story!
I have just loved every book in this series and I hope it wasn’t the last. It’s so hard not to love Gid and Lee like family. They are so well written and their adventures never feel forced. From the first book to this last one, I have been hooked!

Such a lovely idea
I'd love to live in a world like the one conjured by Harper Fox in this series. I'd love to know a love like this, and a sense of primordial magic in the background making sense of it all even when the characters themselves can't. I pray it's so much more than fantasy. Thank you for enriching my life with these characters and their adventures. I am delighted and so grateful for your efforts.

A thoroughly enjoyable series
I just finished this audible and really, the entire series one by one. I find the characters well developed and charming. The narrator is a bit dry, but it works for the story. Altogether worth listening or reading the entire series.

I hate how much I love this series
it was beautiful and complex and annoying perfect. It didn't end how I wanted, but that's not always going to happen.

Viva la Resistance!
Super Baby saves the day and other mythic adventures of Lee & Gideon in their little slice of Cornwall. This tale is weird, but it’s the good sort of weird. Is it fever dream or are the witches warping the fabric of spacetime?
Another oddity is that we get POV scenes from several different characters in this installment. Usually we just get Gideon’s, but here we get his & Lee’s & several other characters’ POVs as well. It mostly works. Interesting magical way to tie up the loose ends/achieve justice. I liked it. This one might be ok for a new reader because most relevant backstory comes with a brief reminder and it’s good.
Steam: med-low. more hurried bouts of M/M explicit affection when these busy parents of a precocious toddler can squeeze it in.
Narration: I think the varied voices were handled well. Audio quality seemed solid.

Emotional
I have really enjoyed this series, but Preacher, Prophet, Beast was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for me. I wonder if this is the last in the series? It felt kind of like that with multiple characters making an appearance. I really disliked all the political commentary. I get enough of that in the news. This book also had a lot more weirdness. Im not entirely sure if I understand everything that happened. I’ll hopefully pick up more when I listen to it again. I was crying and sick at heart at one point. Then things turned around and there was a relatively happy ending. Whew! Tim Gilbert did a fantastic job with the character voices. My only complaint was that sometimes Lees voice sounded like Gideon’s, but it was like he would catch himself using the wrong voice and moderate it back to Lee’s softer tone.

Why couldn’t they all have been like this?
I Strongly suspect that a Harper Fox is the pseudonym for two or more people - and that the first and second half of the series were written by different people. The series went from boring porn wrapped in a very flimsy cover, to an interesting story combining Cornish mythology with modern day events and interesting interpersonal relationships
At the beginning of the series I had to skip through endless “lube encounters” in an effort to piece together some semblance of a story. Towards the end of the series, the focus was on the locale and characters relationships with one another - with only a passing nod to the fulfilling physical bond between the protagonists.
If it hadn’t been a long weekend with a lot of yard work to get through, I never would have stuck with the series though. Perhaps if the author(s) went back and rewrote the first several stories they could actually charge for the books

Reality Reflection
What feels like a waking fever dream evolves through several iterations and unravels perfectly into detail that explains so much. I could listen/read about Gideon and Lee for many more volumes because this series is bloody brilliant!

Excellent series
I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series. The characters were interesting, the plot complete, and the narrator was pleasant to my ear. I especially enjoyed the strength of ethic and morals the characters displayed when faced with difficult circumstances and decisions. They were fully human and imperfect but chose to act in ways exemplifying who they wanted to be/become. (Including owning up to bad behaviors.) Finally, while I usually prefer longer novels, the shorter length of each book was perfect for afternoons spent cleaning and fixing things around the house and completing landscaping chores.
