Publisher's summary

A solar storm has just hit the world causing a EMP event. A emergency manager visiting Atlanta, GA must find his way back home after this electromagnetic pulse has stranded him away from his vehicle and his beloved "bug out bag." With 180 miles to go to his destination, David must let his street smarts and survival skills kick in as food and water becomes scarce and societal breakdown proceeds at an unrelenting pace. An interesting and often funny cast of characters from the Deep South helps the displaced Prepper on his way, as he shares his knowledge of how to make do with common items in order to live another day. Ultimately, he acquires an old tractor and heads for home on a car-littered interstate.

A Post Apocalyptic Treasure

If you could sum up Preppers Road March in three words, what would they be?

Fictional Survival Manual
The author weaves in many preparedness and survival tips into the story line that teaches the reader how to overcome such hardships. I found remembering these tips much easier to remember by relating them to a character versus reading some dry old survival book.

What other book might you compare Preppers Road March to and why?

I think Foster`s book is destined to become a classic like One Second After. The threat of EMP taking down the electrical grid is a reality. The books don't really compare in writing style but they both cover the threat well and and bring their own special insights into how this type of disaster might impact society.

Which scene was your favorite?

I would say the race to get out of the big city of Atlanta and doing it without any special gear other than what you might have on your keyring.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moments but the scenes where they say good bye to other survivors and go on their way were quite touching.

Any additional comments?

I have been waiting two years to hear this come out in audible, I wonder how long it will take before someone makes a movie out of it.

Awesome Prepper Story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely! Ron Foster's writing style pulls you right into the story with a very realistic rendering of what might happen after the electrical grid goes down. With great survival tips and tricks woven in, the story gives you hope that we could survive with a bit of ingenuity and cooperation. The narrator does a great job with the characters and has a really good voice to listen to!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Definitely David, the main character! He stays level-headed and cool about everything yet still has plenty of humor in bad situations! His compassion showed in how he cared for his fellow travelers and country folk and made sure they had the basics before moving on to his next destination.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I did! The story pulls you right in and I love being able to do my housework while listening! And now I need another one!

Fascinating!

Any additional comments?

Following the adventure that the character has in his work of getting back home is fascinating and riveting! These stories really get you involved in a way that most prepper books don't. The story carries you along and you learn very valuable tricks and tips on how to survive. Rons books are a definite must read for any prepper!

Dissapointed

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I selected this book when I saw reviews titled "Awesome Prepper Story!", "Fascinating!" and "A Post Apocalyptic Treasure". I'm now wondering if the author's family posted those reviews. This is a mediocre story at best with a very armature narration. This story is on par with what you might find for free on line; something that was never publicized beyond someone's blog. I think the author is probably a great guy, and one I'd be happy to have a beer with (which he seems to have an obsession with), but his book was a complete waste of money. There were some survival tips scattered through the story, but they seemed to detract rather than enhance the flow.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm considering Half Past Midnight. I may also listen to The Dog Stars again. The Dog Stars is a beautifully written post apocalyptic story. If you haven't listened to it I highly recommend you do so.

What didn’t you like about Duane Sharp’s performance?

His voices were distracting, especially in how he performed the females.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I really enjoy this genre of audio books. I almost had to turn it off a few times, but saw it through until the end. I guess if I had to name a redeeming quality it would be that the author clearly is an actual "prepper" and cares about helping people. While I didn't care for his writing I have no doubt that I would like him personally.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money. Listen to The Dog Stars, One Second After, or Breakers.
