About this listen

From Prince's superstardom to studio seclusion, this second book in the award-winning Prince Studio Sessions series spotlights how Prince, the biggest rock star on the planet at the time, risked everything to create some of the most introspective music of his four-decade career.

Duane Tudahl takes us on an emotional and intimate journey of love, loss, rivalry, and renewal revealed through unprecedented access to dozens of musicians, singers, studio engineers, and others who worked with him and knew him best - with never-before-published memories from the Revolution, the Time, the Family, and Apollonia 6. Also included is a heartfelt foreword by musical legend Elton John about his time and friendship with Prince.

Great stories behind the music

This is possibly the closest we get to Susan Rogers writing her own book. She had a front row seat to his genius, I keep hoping she would write a book.
Here she gives many stories within the studio of what was happening around the creation of many songs.
I’m only left to wonder once Paisley Park opened if records were kept as was the case with Sunset Sound to produce another book within this series.

Ron Butler reads Prince history like a dream again

Excellent 2nd book on Prince by Duane Tudahl and masterfully again narrated by Ron Butler. May more volumes continue.

AMAZING READ! Like the last one

Read the Purple Rain Era Studio Session Book when it was released and I love this one just as much. As a R&B Pop Singer, who is a self taught, pianist, guitarist, songwriter and producer/engineer. This book gives me all the little details I’ve always wondered about with Prince’ work ethic. The thing that has resonated with me most is dealing with the loneliness that comes with the amount of dedication and selfishness needed to achieve this level of greatness. It is a dark indeed, lonely, even delusional world, we live in. But I assume comes with the territory. I literally marvel in Prince’s ability to be so sure of himself and hit the studio for hours and days on end. The humanity or him makes it far more interesting knowing that he wasn’t just talented, he worked his tail off constantly almost never burning out, like Kobe & Jordan. Straight Crazy. His terrible character traits, being manipulative, insecure, and self absorbed are traits I wish to not attain but I feel like it’s inevitable when being so determined in one’s purpose to that level. GREAAAT READ.

I feel like I know Prince better now

I loved the format of the chronlogical order and details about the music along with comments by his band and friends. His genius is just amazing. He's definitely the Mozart of our time.

My favorite era broken down perfectly

I avoided listening to this cause I thought it would be a mundane exercise. This was done with a tremendous amount of care and love.

I hope that the author is consulted on any future Prince documentaries or films depicting his incredible life. Listening to this helped me appreciate the genius of Prince even more which I didn’t think was possible.

Very Informative

Gives insight to Prince,s work ethic. This man loved to make music. Just wish he and the Revolution would have stayed together because they had such a beautiful bond. Since Prince was such a private person this book gave insight to how he worked. his relationship with his band.
