About this listen

Middle-aged bookstore owner Willa Chance is often haunted by ghosts who want her to do their bidding. Usually it involves the nasty business of bringing their killers to justice, so when the ghost of Adelaide Hamilton asks her to find an old recipe book and give it to Elspeth Whipple, it seems like an easy job. Except Willa's search for the book has her crossing the path of Sheriff Eddie Striker one too many times for comfort. He's acting almost as if he's investigating a murder, but Adelaide died of natural causes. Didn't she?

When it turns out Adelaide's entire family had means, motive, and opportunity, Willa's search becomes dangerous, and she finds herself matching wits with a cold-blooded killer who wants the same thing she does. Luckily Willa's cat, Pandora, is looking out for her and enlists the aid of the other cats of Mystic Notch, who will stop at nothing to ensure Willa's safety as well as the recovery of the book...even if it takes a little bit of magic.

Great narration and a story that keeps you guessing. Wonderfully imagined cats...if only they could talk or we could understand their ways of communication.

Another great tale by Leighan Dobbs.

I like the narrator. She does such a good job distinguishing the characters as she reads. This is my favorite of the series I think. I just enjoyed the story.

What made the experience of listening to Probable Paws the most enjoyable?

The Mystic Notch series is one I really enjoy listening too. It's a lot of fun and the narration is beautifully done. The stories are well written and it is a treat to relax and enjoy Mystic Notch!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The cast of characters are all nicely drawn - Willa Chance, books shop owner, is the one in the middle holding it all together, and unwittingly she works with the cats of Mystic Notch against evil and the bad guys including Persian cat Puff :-)

Have you listened to any of Elisabeth Rodgers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoy the narration a lot. There is the right touch of characterisation that works so well, especially with the cats. The character 'voices' add to the story and I enjoy them :-)

Any additional comments?

One day I will actually grab a paper copy of a Mystic Notch mystery, but for now, I love the Audible production. A cosy mystery series with characters I know and love, and Cats!!

Great light listening. Love a fun mystery with continuing characters. I can envision the setting and feel like I know the characters. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Honestly, I love the cats, but Willa is just so frustratingly dense! She doesn't listen to what is being said to her, like the girl saying "I can't cast spells without the book". Had to be told twice before it hit home. Instead of asking questions, she does things herself, totally misunderstanding everything that is going. And Striker! Just as dense sometimes. I wish authors would write a book where the main character could just be honest with the ones that are important to her. Just so frustrating!
