About this listen

"God save the Queen! God save our good Queen Mary"! When these words rang out over England, Mary Tudor thought her troubles were over. She could put her painful past - the loss of her mother and mistreatment at the hands of her father - behind her. With her accession to the throne, Mary set out to restore Catholicism in England and find the love of a husband that she had long desired. But the tragedies in Mary's life were far from over. How did a gentle, pious woman become known as "Bloody Mary"?

I tend to prefer books narrated by the author as they have less of a ‘performance’ feel to it but Stier’s voice is really soothing and gets you right in the story. I love period pieces. This book delivers!

Beautiful narration

I loved this book. It painted Mary Tudor in a new light. She was no longer "Bloody Mary" for me. She was a living, multidimensional woman doing the best she could in very difficult times. I had a great deal more empathy for her after reading this book.
The narrator...hmmm. She spoke at a good clip so I put the speed of her narration at 0.9. This helped me understand her better, but her pronunciation was still off. She just didn't sound right. I was able to get used to it and it didn't detract from the book.
All in all, it was a book series and I highly recommend you get it.

Fantastic book.

the story was just ok because of the reader. her voice is nice but she kept using a high pitch for the female voices & it got quite exasperating. made me wish I hadn't used a credit...
