About this listen

The eighth installment in this cozy mystery series features Daisy Dalrymple at the Museum of Natural History, a place of fascination - and murder.

In the summer of 1923, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple makes what should be an uneventful research trip to the Museum of Natural History quite an eventful day - with her nephew, Derek, and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Belinda, in tow. But as she interviews the various curators for her article on the museums of London, she soon discovers that the Museum of Natural History is a hothouse of professional rivalry and jealousy. Much resentment exists, particularly between Dr. Smith Woodward, the keeper of geology, responsible for the fossil collection, and Dr. Pettigrew, the keeper of mineralogy, responsible for the museum's fabulous gem collection.

On a later trip, as closing time nears, Daisy hears two voices followed by a tremendous crash and rushes into the next hall to discover Dr. Pettigrew dead - murdered amid a pile of dinosaur bones.

Daisy's fiancé, Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard, is assigned to investigate, and together they must unravel a most baffling case of missing gems, dispossessed European royalty, professional rivalry, and a murder most foul.

Lucy Rayner is a much better performer than the reader of previous books. French and Latin words are pronounced correctly, in my recollection.

Excellent reader!

The story is marvelous, as usual. Carola Dunn has created a smart, charming, lovable heroine in Lady Daisy Dalrymple.

Lucy Rayner is a SUPERB reader. She effortlessly moves from character to character, each with their own voice. She does men as well as women and all with their regional accents. She's a pleasure to listen to and makes the story so much easier to follow.

Love this whole series

Narrator used too much treble when speaking as the main character. It was very annoying and actually hurt my ears when using earphones.

Loved the story a fun setting. The narrator was excellent better than the previous one. Good on point accents and a lively telling. which is lovely when you’re a Brit listening. Some English accents by other narrators are dreadful. Well done.

Great narration.

There were quite a few mispronounced words throughout the oratory along with repeated segments that weren’t edited out.

The voice was a bit annoying.

as usual another entertaining mystery in this series. you dont need to read previous stories in the series to understand what is going on. It does follow the style of this series. the setting really made this a fun story playing with natural history museums in the 1920s and how people viewed them and the things they collected. A very interesting mystery whose clues are set out early and wraps up nicely. Very entertaining if you enjoy a cozy mystery. you dont

it was good ton finally meet alec's mother. it was great seeing Daisy still working on articles. for a change of pace daisy wasnt at the center of events so we get to hear Daisy trying to solve the crime in her own way.

i found the audio quality excellent. production levels were good and there was great voice acting work.
