About this listen
Have you ever wanted to climb into a time machine and visit Hollywood during its heyday?
Hollywood history is more than just colorful. It's dripping with red.
As World War II ends, a new boogeyman emerges: the Red Menace. When a scandal accuses Tinseltown of being riddled with Communists, MGM writing department head Marcus Adler needs to keep his reputation beyond reproach. Unfortunately in Hollywood, nobody's past is spotless.
While the House Un-American Activities Committee prepares to grill the brightest stars in town, gossip columnist Kathryn Massey is doing everything she can to shed the FBI informer mantle she carried during the war. Desperate to avoid tangling with a notorious mobster, Massey may have to take on J. Edgar Hoover himself to secure her freedom.
The war killed Gwendolyn Brick's dream of opening her own store, but valuable secrets can creep into the strangest of places. From behind the perfume counter at Bullocks Wilshire, Brick makes a shocking discovery that could revive her dream and change multiple lives for good.
In post-war Hollywood, there are reds in the beds, the sharks are circling, and it's feeding time.
Reds in the Beds is the fifth installment in the Hollywood's Garden of Allah saga, a series of historical novels set in Hollywood's heyday. If you like authentic and richly-detailed history, compelling and memorable characters, and seeing fiction and history seamlessly woven together, then you'll love Martin Turnbull's authentic portrayal of the City of Angels.

Story
Since 1929, Hollywood’s brightest stars have flocked to the Chateau Marmont as if it were a second home. An apartment building-turned-hotel, the Chateau has been the backdrop for generations of gossip and folklore: where director Nicholas Ray slept with his 16-year-old Rebel Without a Cause star Natalie Wood; Jim Morrison swung from the balconies; John Belushi suffered a fatal overdose; and Lindsay Lohan got the boot after racking up nearly $50,000 in charges in less than two months. Much of what has happened inside the Chateau’s walls has eluded the public eye - until now.

Story
Lucie Montgomery's semi-estranged brother, Eli, calls her in France to tell her that their father, Leland, has been killed in a hunting accident on the family's 500-acre Virginia vineyard. But the vineyard is now shabby and run-down and her siblings want to sell it. Then Lucie's godfather tells her Leland's death was no accident. With her greedy brother, hell-raising sister, and a seemingly cut-rate vintner hired by Leland just before he died, all the suspects are disturbingly close to home.

story is still great. This narrator is much better than the last book but still not as good as the first book.

Great addition to an entertaining series
If you could sum up Reds in the Beds in three words, what would they be?
HUAC, Hollywood, and the Nation
What was one of the most memorable moments of Reds in the Beds?
To me, the snowball rolling downhill effect of the investigation into the entertainment industry.
Which character – as performed by Lance Roger Axt – was your favorite?
This is Book 5 in the Garden of Allah series by Martin Turnbull. As such recurring characters are once again here. I enjoyed the portayals of Marcus Adler, Kathryn Massey, and gossip columnist Gwen. The narrator Lance Roger Axt doesn't stoop to attempts at feminine falsetto voices more than softening inflections as the female characters speak. Giving a non intrusive or distracting performance. I appreciated that.
If you could rename Reds in the Beds, what would you call it?
Hollywood is a Many Splendored World... lol
Any additional comments?
This addition to the Garden of Allah series stands on its own quite well. However the series is chock full of Hollywood and the time frame in America covered. I wholeheartedly recommend the entire series so as to be even more empathetic to the characters and action. The narration is,superb. Adding to the pleasurable entertainment.. Far beyond the common "just don't detract" standards that more and more audiobooks seem to have fallen into in choosing the narrator.

REDS IN THE BEDS
What did you love best about Reds in the Beds?
GWENDOLYN, AND HER MALE FRIENDS AT THE BAR!
What other book might you compare Reds in the Beds to and why?
CAN'T THINK OF ONE.
Which character – as performed by Lance Roger Axt – was your favorite?
GWENDOLYN, SHE'S RESOURCEFUL, TRIES SO HARD NOT TO GIVE UP ON HER DREAM.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
WE THREE, ( and then some!)
Any additional comments?
GOOD BOOK, WHILE I'M NOT REALLY A FAN OF READING ABOUT THAT ERA, THE AUTHOR HAD A WAY OF INTERTWINING THEIR PERSONAL LIVES WITH THIS HORRENDOUS THING THAT RUINED SO MANY PEOPLE'S LIVES. 😁😠🗽👗🏰

a minor issue
while this volume in the series made for a good story, i had a problem with the narration—inconsistent character accents (or none), mispronounced names and words (as if it was the first encounter with such a word and no one corrected the pronunciation)and at times almost robotic enunciations, which got pretty distracting...so hopefully, the next book in the series won’t present the same issue.
