Totally new take on the fae

This was a great book, and my only complaint was that I want more! Cue book two! The author did a great job taking stories we know (four huntsmen/fae/apocalypse) yet putting an entirely new spin on it. The narrator did a wonderful job with both the male and female voices and I loved her ability to differentiate between emotions. Bram and Chloe are wonderful characters and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! Onto book two!

Remnants of Ash

If your world went into utter chaos and destruction tomorrow, how would you survive? Would you have the will to survive if you lost all of the people who meant anything to you? In a post-apocalyptic world, it is kill or be killed. In Remnants of Ash, Dawn takes two characters who are unlikely to pair up—and they are forced to save what is left of humanity. This story will pull readers in just enough to give the reader a sense of foreboding and then it’s over.

Chloe Etain is a college student, making her way through the world on her own when the war picks up its pace and obliterates the earth with something called the Scorch. The Fae have really put survival to the test with these vampire-like creatures scouring the earth in search of their next meal. Meeting up with Bram has been the best and possibly the worst thing that could have happened. Bram is mysterious, sexy, but most importantly, he is a hunter and very lethal. As their journey rapidly continues, both individuals must learn the ways of this new world and each other. Can they work together? Can they survive against the impending doom that lurks at their destination?

Dawn has a very short story with the first installment of the Reign of Fae series, called Remnants of Ash. Short stories are totally acceptable for certain genres; however, this specific series seems to have a lot going on which is not conducive to this type of writing. In such a short time frame, the story loses space for a well-written backstory on characters and the plot is virtually thrown together which appears sloppy. In this story, characters appear a bit underdeveloped and scenes typically smoosh together fairly quickly, which may leave readers with confusion or complete loss of interest. Since this review does compliment the audiobook, Fullmer kept up with the quick pace fairly well; however, some wording was slurred together and there were mispronunciations through the story. The story itself has the capacity to be five-star worthy if the author ever decides to lengthen this installment and add more “meat” to the characters and scenes, and categorizes the book correctly. The development process of this story could definitely use another look. If you are a reader of post-apocalyptic, science fiction, magic, fantasy with a small amount of romance, you may enjoy this read. Since this is the first installment within the series, readers are able to jump right in.

Omg

What would you do if the fae took over your world? Are the light fae really to be trusted? Chloe and her friend Bram are thrown into a war between the fae as they try to save the mortal world they grew up in. But who really is Bram and how does he know so much about this war and the fae? I only have one complaint about this book..it was to short and I needed more. I will be picking up book two very soon. I fell in love with the characters in this story as well as the world. It mixes magic and fae with our modern day world which I thought was an awesome concept. If you are looking for a good fae book this is definitely a must read. I also really enjoyed hearing about the details of the magical creatures as well as the many different weapons they have to use to help them stop this war. I also enjoyed the magic in this world and I think C.K. Dawn did and amazing job mixing their world with ours. The narrator also did an amazing job brining the characters to life in this story. Their were parts of this story that had me laughing and the parts that had me fearing for their safety. Dawn really has a way of writing and made me feel like I was there and part of the action. I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait to start book two!

Passionate

The narrator of Remnants of Ash read this book with an addictive passion. I’ll admit I haven’t read many Fae stories but I really liked this book.

The world as we know it is being torn apart by fae. Chloe sees the start of the end when her professor is killed not so accidentally. Now she needs to find a way to set things right. The task seems impossible but with the help of a fallen fae an adventure unfolds. With magic, romance and the overshadow of death Chloe and Bram set out to save the human world.

This is the start of a series and is a continuous story. I really enjoyed this but it will leave you wanting more.

*I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Short but Good Start

This book is on the shorter side and I wish it were longer becasue I enjoyed what I read. The storyline is pretty original and the characters likeable. The narration had good pacing and character voices. I am invested enough to want to know more and will continue to book 2 which I am hoping has more depth and character development

A clever new twist of an apocalyptic tale.

The only bad thing I can say about this book is, it’s not long enough!! I can’t wait to hear more!! I loved the new angle the author used to tell a gripping story of the end of the world.

Great start to the series.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the original story about the fae and how well the world was imagined. The characters were fun to journey with and all in all, I loved the time spent. The narrator did a great job of bringing the world and characters to life and kept me engaged the whole time. I was given a free copy of this audio in return for an unbiased review.

Remnants of Ash

An interesting start to a new series. I found the storyline to be quite original. The start was a little slow for me, but I was intrigued enough to keep going. Now I can say, I’m ready for the next book.

Both the author and narrator are new to me. I would not hesitate to check out more of their works.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
