Irony wears a disingenuous smile.
Ren Lewis, who has faced every danger known to man, is about to meet a challenge he’s convinced has the power to undo him. When he discovers that his daughter, Adelaide, has been hiding a pregnancy he goes into hiding himself.
Having a daughter was one catastrophe Ren struggled with. But now, being expected to welcome her baby into his home is not something Ren knows how to assimilate into his life.
With a new ferocity he throws himself into his work in order to avoid family responsibility. And there’s enough work to keep him occupied with Vivian Bishop trying to infiltrate American homes, intent on controlling and manipulating their residents.
Ren soon realizes that Vivian is his perfect enemy. She’s strategic, brilliant, and stunningly beautiful.
In this third installment, the monster in Ren will have to do the unspeakable. He will have to evolve. Nothing in his life can be approached employing any of the strategies he’s used before. The evolution of Ren might be his undoing, but it might also be the one thing that brings him real happiness.

Great third book in this series, and as always really enjoyable listen.

The plot was interesting and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the mystery and suspense. As with previous books in this series, I also enjoyed the characterization and the humorous dialog. Ren is so mean sometimes, I’m embarrassed to admit that he makes me laugh and I am developing a certain fondness for him.
I was captivated by Tim Campbell’s narration. His pacing is good and I enjoy his character voices. The voice and British accent he uses for Ren is perfect for Ren’s snarky comments, and probably made the story more enjoyable for me than if I had read it myself. I definitely recommend the audiobook.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and volunteered to provide an honest review.
Cruel but funny main character, great narration

Ren’s gift also allows him to read thoughts and manipulate people. He loathes this side of himself and his past transgressions. In fact, he often refers to it as the monster inside him. Ren is also self-absorbed but has a lover, loves his parents and now has a daughter who is expecting a brat of her own. (his words not mine) Ren is brilliant, socially awkward, and filled with equal parts self-loathing and admiration.
In this episode, a former student able to control minds with her voice is up to no good and seems to be one step ahead of the institute. Which means they have a mole. Determined to thwart her, he will stop at nothing.
Mix in trouble on the home-front and our hero has his hands full. I laughed, held my breath, and devoured this installment. The suspense angle was a good one, and the trouble at home compounded the situation but also made me laugh as Ren finds himself the cure-all.
Tim Campbell is bloody brilliant as Ren and offers a full range of voices for the rest of the characters. He truly has become the voice of Ren and deadpans his wit and snarky attitude.
Ren Lewis, logical, analytical Ren.

I've fallen head first into this series. Just going through them like candy bars. I love Ren's foul mouthed comments and grumpy demeanor. The character development in this book was spot on. It wasnt so bold that we lost what we love and it wasnt so subtle that we missed it.
If you're a sensitive or easily offended type person, then I'd advise you to steer clear of this one. Ren drops so many F-bombs and "controversial" jabs that I thought I was listening to the English version of Dave Chappelle 🤣.
For me, I haven't really seen Ren as the bad guy. However, in this book he really shows the qualities that could make someone hate him. I didnt agree with his actions and that made me more eager to see what happens. He doesnt handle the pregnancy well at all. The scene in the hospital almost broke my heart and I wanted him get slapped!
But that is what a good book is all about. It brings out your emotions and makes you really feel something towards the characters. I'm all in for this one. I'll be listening to every single one. Not sure why some reviewers are saying this is the last one because I've got two more showing up in this series.
Now there were some things that I found a little annoying:
1.The first is the villian in this book. The villian who is as smart and analytical as Ren wouldn't be beaten so easily. Also, villains that smart would back a Plan B and a Plan C. It felt like the author was running out of time and just had to end it where she was before the shot clock ran out.
2. How come we've never heard the lyrics to any of Deliah's songs?
3. How come the paparazzi dont harrass Ren? He is dating a pop star, right?
4. Why is Deliah 40 years old but all of her fans are still referred to as teenagers?
It appears that Ren is part of a larger story. I'm only assuming it's about Trey and his kids since he is the boss. After I finish bn up Ren's series then I'll check out the other stories. It's hard to imagine listening to something about Dreamwalkers and him not being the lead character. I'll have to see how it goes.
Narrator is perfect for this series.
3 Stars 🌟🌟🌟- Good Book. I like the overall concept and it was delivered well. Most common ranking for a book I enjoyed and look forward to the next.
Ren is such a good Bad Guy!
