About this listen

Rerum Novarum, the opening words and the title of the Encyclical issued by Leo XIII, May 15, 1891, on the "Condition of Labor". Although the Encyclical follows the lines of the traditional teaching concerning the rights and duties of property and the relations of employed and employee, it applies the old doctrines specifically to modern conditions.

Nothing in particular. This was a good reflection on wise governing. I need 15 words.

Although it is a bit out of sync with the times, it is a very good platform for consideration of advancing political thought.

Although the title is only 90 minutes, it's packed with great reasoning as to where Biblical support for Labor and unions can originate in Christianity. Leo's arguments for the need for respect and dignity for laborers and how this complements class structures and Christian theology is well written and thought provoking. I bought this to gain a better understanding of the new Pope's thought processes regarding the role of humanity during times of technogical change and was not disappointed. Easily digestible despite being written 130 years ago. Only complaint is I wish the narrator read the Biblical citations when they were quoted instead of just assuming the reader knew where they came from.

Great Biblical Explanation of Need for Labor

Pope Leo the XIII shows his understanding of the times and his true concern for all parties involved. Another sign that God knows us and wants what is best for us and that the Holy Spirit is active and working for our good.

Brilliant work
