About this listen

Alexandra Ramsey has been rescuing strays since she was abandoned by her mother at the age of seven. Now Alex's passion is poured into Harley's Haven, the no-kill animal shelter she built from scratch in Cade's Point, Mississippi.

Evan Whiting rode the crest of the wave of success as a top chef in Manhattan until 26 people were sickened by bad crab meat. He lost his restaurant, his savings, his reputation, and his wife. Evan retreats to the home he inherited in rural Mississippi to start over.

Both Alex and Evan are about to be rescued. Then there's Walter....

Good book

STORY REVIEW......

Rescued is a somewhat sweet romance book. The reason I say somewhat is because I didn't always like the character of Alex. She was often snarky, rude and jumped to conclusions about everything Evan said or did. I liked Evan he was a little lost at first having come from a big city life to a small town life. But he was sweet and caring an really wanted to belong and do right by his aunt. The story was good. It could have been better had there been more of the main characters getting to know each other. It seemed like there was to many background stories. Nut over all it was a sweet story.

AUDIO REVIEW......

The narrator was good and had a clear sounding voice. She read well. The voices she gave to each of the characters were well done. Over all it was a nice book to listen to.

Who is Rescuing Who.....Walter?

Rescued begins with Alex Ramsey who runs a no-kill shelter and rescuing abandoned animals. Alex has given up on love after being jilted at the alter. Evan Whiting came to Cade's Point, Mississippi to start anew after losing his restaurant, his reputation, his wife, and ending up with nothing after several people has gotten sick at his restaurant in New York City. Evan hoped that his new restaurant in Cade's Point will give him a fresh new beginning.

However, Aunt Amelia, decreased, is reaching out from the beyond and with Walter, the dog, are intervening to bring Alex and Evan together.

During their first meeting, Alex was rude to Evan while she was waitressing in her uncle's restaurant. And then there is that competition between them to buying the lot between her no-kill shelter and Evan's restaurant Amelia's. Alex wanted the lot to expand her shelter and Evan wanted the lot to use as additional parking. Nothing was going right in both their lives even with the reading of Aunt Amelia's will.

The only thing that they have is Walter, the dog who seemed to bring them together and to have them see each other point of view. Walter has perfect timing when Alex and Evan are at an impasse with each other, when they are at an awkward moment, and then helping them toward common grounds.

The narrator, Caroline McLaughlin really gave life to Alex and Evan. I love the way both are bantering each other at the beginning. But somewhere in the story, Alex and Evan started to grow on each other with the intervention of Walter.

The story is well written where both didn't respect each other professions. As the story progresses, Alex and Evan were able to experienced each other world. The story is quite clean without any physically sex scenes. It is surprising how their relationship developed slowly to their HEA ending instead of quickly.

Another thing about the story is that it focuses more on animal rescue and how a non-profit organization works. The story educates the average reader that there is more to animal rescue and that the non-profit organization relays on the charity of businesses and individuals to keep it running.

I do have to recommend this book to any readers who love animals.

Nice Read

This was a feel good love story with ex's, sweet tea and a brave mutt. The narrator did a good job portraying the characters but I really didn't care much for her voice. Overall it was a good read.

What a nice surprise!

The depth of the characters and realistic situations made this book a delightful departure from your run of the mill quirky romance. I tend to shy away from books with dogs on the cover for fear they are corny and feature dogs only to lure in unsuspecting dog lovers. I am so glad I got this audiobook because of the opposite. While the dog(s) were in the book, they did not outshine the overall story but brought another dimension to the book. I especially appreciated the authors note at the end! So many times you finish a book and it brings nothing into your life but this one is different.
I believe fans of all ages could benefit from reading (listening to) it and recommend her books highly!
