About this listen

Back in Balsam Dell to heal after the death of her husband, Carly Hale is finally pursuing her lifelong dream — opening Carly's Grilled Cheese Eatery. After only five months, business is booming as Vermont vacationers and townspeople alike flock to lunch on her Party Havartis and other grilled-cheese concoctions. That is, everyone is but Lyle Bagley, her one-time high-school boyfriend who’s now the town bully — and he just bought the building that houses her eatery and wants her out.

After a muenster of a fight, she's forced to put her nose to the rind and find a solution to keep her business afloat. But then Lyle is discovered dead behind the dumpster of Carly's shop, and one of her employees becomes the prime suspect. In order to save her eatery and prove her friend's innocence, she must sleuth out the killer before she's the one who gets grilled.

With a delightful cast of characters, an inventive amateur sleuth, and a whole host of cheesy hijinks, Up to No Gouda is the perfect cozy murder mystery to melt into.

A fun story that made this cheese-lover drool and hanker for a grilled cheese sandwich. I am rarely surprised by whodunnit but this one got me! Maybe it was the narrator but this cozy mystery’s main character is a little too sweet, doting, and naive. The dialogue is shallow and choppy. I will try the next one because of the clever plot line potential, but might not make it through the saccharin.

A little naive but a surprise!

I found this book because I enjoyed Mia's narration of another series. A cozy mystery in every sense, this book also threw in a few extra curves which made for a more entertaining story. The characters are presented well. Quite delightful, and I look forward to continuing the series.

Pleasant and light

It was a fine cozy mystery. Not the best but not the worst either. Cute characters.

Pretty simplistic, but a cute story

Very good overall, would read/listen to the next. Wasn't really sure if the prospective love interest was a good it bad guy for about half the book.

Nice Cosy Mystery

The storyline is good - an interesting mystery - but seems from a bygone era, peppered with overly cute sayings like "For the love of daisies in December." Not a book for me.

Too cutesy for me
