Publisher's summary

United by fate and a common quest for justice, four people battle for their freedom.

When they find their cheating husbands plotting against them, Freesia Hollister and her friend Iris Simmons' lives implode. Receiving unexpected help from two Special Force veterans traveling in a motorhome, the four begin a suspenseful adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. But trouble soon follows.

Coming to the rescue of the two ladies adds additional obstacles to the veteran's mission of searching for a MIA soldier from their platoon hiding at the park. With government agencies also searching for their friend, the race to find him begins.

As helicopters hover and government agents go rogue, these four are determined to shield the innocent and bring the guilty to justice.

Surprisingly Heartfelt, if Violent, Book

I read and listen to many books, and I review just about every one, whether I like a book or not. As my reviews are often critical, I get some flack and push-back from disgruntled authors. I won't go into detail, but it has certainly, at times, made me consider not reviewing as many books as I do. However, as a voracious reader myself, I appreciate the reviews written by other readers, as they do help me decide whether a book would be one I'd enjoy—or not. I've often wished that some particularly snarky authors would just let me do my thing, as I bear them no ill will for putting out what I consider to be a not-so-good book. In fact, I hope writers will continue to grow as they put out books so I can actually enjoy their newer stories. Or, perhaps, that first not-so-good book is an anomaly, and I will enjoy others. I write this prelude to this book because the first audiobook I listened to by this author I didn't enjoy as much as I would have liked. The book's first part was fine, but the book fell apart for me midway. This book was just about the opposite. I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into for the first third of the story, but once I commit to an audiobook, I see it through to the end unless it's just far too terrible.

Instead of disappointing me, I really enjoyed this book, even though parts of it were more violent than I typically enjoy. The author set up the four main characters, two men and two women; the gender groups were strangers to each other, while the same-sex pairs were good friends. They get thrown into a variety of circumstances, and despite warning signs they should go their separate ways, they decide to stick together and help each other. The men are former Special Forces, so they have a strong protective streak, and these two females certainly need protecting. But the men themselves have an interesting backstory I won't divulge, and at first, the ladies just want to assist the men who have helped them, but then they get wrapped up in their secret, and things just get more complex from there.

This book has so much going on, and it could be confusing, but I was able to keep things straight most of the time, and once the ride truly started, shall we say, I didn't really care who was who and what was what. I just kept listening. The book has some tense situations, and violent ones; more than one person dies—even one we may not want to. If you're not a fan of love triangles—and I'll admit I'm on the fence about it—the author has great ways out of that situation—okay, not so good for one of the guys!—that is sad but completely makes sense in terms of his character and provides a good path for how the remaining twosome will proceed. I'll admit this book made me occasionally tear up, which I actually love when reading a book. That means the author has created believable, worthy-of-caring-for characters I can’t help but root for. The epilogue was perfectly on point. Taking place eight years after the main part of the story, it shows how the main characters are doing. An actually very sweet and tender moment that was the perfect end to this story. If you're willing to go on a bit of a wild ride with some violence but also romance, hunted men getting their justice, and more than one heart-tugging moment, you will probably enjoy this book as much as I did. Recommended.
