expert story-telling

Reset has a completely different feel from the first two books of the trilogy. While Crash and Upgrade focused on establishing the characters and story-line, Reset extends the story into the inevitable yet unpredictable conclusion that has been needed. As a novice reader of science-fiction, I found the technical tone to still be relatable and understandable, while still stretching my imagination, and Muhlenfeld writes the conclusion to satisfy his audience while still keeping them intrigued and engaged. His strengths as a writer include drawing the reader into the fiction in a way that transports them to alternate realities and creates vivacious visuals that are not so outlandish that they would appear silly or intangible. His story-telling is gripping and leaves the reader caring for the characters, even the inhuman ones, and anxious to continue reading.

Reset...and Resolve!

After finishing the book “Reset”, and wrapping up the Obsolescence trilogy, I finally feel like I can take a breath. The story of James, Logan, and Eve has come to an end. A satisfying finale that only leaves the reader with trite, minuscule questions. The big guns/issues have resolved and you end the book wishing there was another season to watch next year. The writer paints a beautiful story for each of the main characters, both of which the reader can see themselves in. There’s a little bit of James and a little bit of Logan in every modern American man I know. My real question is, when will the trilogy be optioned?! Bravo! Looking forward to more from this author.

Muhlenfed hits a home run

Great Post Apoc imagery tied to a Southwest setting with Vivid characters that leap off the page. Chris Muhlenfed has written a masterpiece of a Dark Suspense filled future. Loved the writing and loved the narration!

Will humanity survive?

Things are coming to a head now and surprises are still in store for James and Alexa as well as Logan and Mia and various family members and friends but one thing is certain: what they thought were bad times before may become the “good old days”. Our focus is still on four entities, Logan, Monica, James and Eve and, although the two groups are separated by miles, neither one is better off than the other.

I’ve had a certain antipathy towards Logan and this third book solidified it. It was bad enough that he let his hormones take charge while life is going to hell in a handbasket but, ever since, he hasn’t had the backbone to stand up to Monica and –gasp! –tell Mia the truth, not even when he finally understands what Monica is. James, on the other hand, did an incredibly selfish thing in the previous book and now he’s paying the price, perhaps facing annihilation of his enhanced brain.

Most importantly, though, can Eve’s claim to being on humanity’s side against the corrupted AIs be true or is all that a ploy to get total and final control? Is it possible for an AI, even one as powerful as Eve, to develop an empathy for her erstwhile victims? I’m not gonna lie, I think Eve is my favorite of all the characters and Mr. Muhlenfeld is to be commended for not only creating a marvelous story but for working with Mr. Waldman to bring it to life 😉

A good read.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
I've read/listened to the entire series and they are great entertainment.
A must read for fans of sci-fi
