Publisher's summary

Rhoenoak - The Awakening is the first audiobook in the Rhoenoak Trilogy. With Earth becoming uninhabitable, humanity's future rests upon the weary shoulders of Pat and Mylah as they struggle to survive in the trying lands of Hethrim. The promise of a new world to serve as humanity's cradle was ruined in a single night at the hands of the Maruga. These dark creatures of terrifying power have already taken residence on Hethrim and seek to claim it as their own. While the strength of mankind proves futile against the Maruga, Pat becomes the key to destroying the fearsome demons, after a latent power awakens within him. Armed with the ancient power of the Valarim flame, Pat fights alongside newfound companions to rid Hethrim of the growing darkness that aims to force the human race, as well as many other species, into extinction.

Explore super-imaginative worlds and characters

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The paperback version was great but then this audio version came out and it is truly amazing! This first-time novelist, John Enitsu, along with his talented narrator, Christopher Boucher, have given me a truly wonderful experience!

Enjoy this marvelous journey through super-imaginative worlds and characters! Great interplay between humans and beings from other locations in the universe, co-existing for mutual survival. The amazing powers summoned by the main character, Pat, are a gift from his mysterious and powerful father. In "Rhoenoak: The Awakening", there are great battles along with beautiful, poignant moments of peace. A sub-text of the story is the eternal struggle between light and darkness, between good and evil. I loved reading this book...but listening to it was a real treat and made the entire adventure come alive in a new and powerful, palpable way! I hope you enjoy this adventure as much as I did!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pat, the main character, exemplifies strength and weakness, hope and doubt, skill and curiosity to improve on that skill, loyalty, etc. He is a real person that I, and I imagine others, can relate to, can cheer for, can empathize with.

Have you listened to any of Christopher Boucher’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never heard Christopher Boucher narrate before and thoroughly enjoyed his characterizations in "Rhoenoak: The Awakening", most especially his portrayal of Farenthuel, the leader of the Acruma. It is haunting and powerful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are many great moments but this one really moved me. A father was trying to get his daughter safely away from a brutal and powerful attacker and the scene built to a crescendo such that the father faced certain death and did not hesitate to die in order to save his daughter. The ensuing gut-wrenching sadness of the daughter made his act of bravery all the more memorable and moving.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this novel as I walked the dogs, drove in the car, and worked in the garden. It made each of those times even more enjoyable!

Pat

so far it's an interesting start, but it puzzles me how he made it to special forces. Pats main driving force for living is protecting his friend. what happens when she is gone is he going to self destruct. One of Pat's weak points is thinking he is not very good at it. Plus I understand curiosity but people are forced to save him because he couldn't keep it in check and his constant problem forgetting his gear....... The 2 love interests for pat is typical one childhood friend that wants to cling to him because it's the last of her past and the other because of the past she had with his father. The plot could go and way
