About this listen

A lazy evening wind bends the sage as it passes. A lone coyote greets the dusk with a plaintive howl. Suddenly, the nearby canyon rings with the sound of echoing gunfire. There's been trouble for some time now, even before the stranger rode in. Cattle are disappearing. Good men have been killed.

Aroused by the distant thunder of rifles, the few riders that are loyal to the lady break for their horses. A stranger mounts his horse too, and becomes one of the riders heading toward the sound of the guns. Beliefs and passions become intertwined with betrayal and violence in this classic adventure tale.

Critic reviews

"The cast is excellent, radio acting at its best with great sound design. There were moments when I felt transported into the West." (Audioworld)

I grew up listening to great radio dramas like "The Lone Ranger" and "Gunsmoke" snuggled up under the covers on a little crystal radio as a kid. Now as an "adult" I am living out my dreams as I moved here to Arizona. This great dramatization, with excellent sound effects and great radio actors helps me relive those great parts of my childhood (as I get under the covers at night with my Otis Player) and the great story by Zane Grey greatly helps me understand the region I have moved to. Highly recommended. And while I'm at it, I recommend that Audible select more full scale dramitizations like this, it really brings the story alive!

Great Western Dramatization

Any additional comments?

Very enjoyable. I know this novel has gotten flack in regards to its treatment of Mormonism, but anyone who has spent much time reading about Mormonism can see the reality in this book. This novel was my first introduction to Grey's writing. I've been a fan ever since!

Tremendous performances for a classic novel!
