Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Good way to learn the language

Where does Romanian Phase 1, Unit 01-05 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I liked all of the Pimsleur audiobooks I have listened to so far. Other language learning audiobooks don't measure up.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There really weren't any characters. You went from being a man talking to a woman to a woman talking to a man and back to being a man again quite often. It was good for practice and learning, but no storyline, so some people might get bored.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favorite?

As before, there weren't any real characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This book does not lend itself to making a film.

Any additional comments?

Unlike many other language learning programs, it lets you practice putting the words in context from the beginning. This makes it easier to learn.

Helpful

Good for listening and forming sentences. These lessons are primarily: hello, please thank you, where are things, do you want to eat or drink; I and you verbs.

Good basic lessons

Good pace, aid in pronunciation and comprehension. I would like the option of following a text sometimes.

Been Married To Moldovan For 10 years finally learning the language

I’ve tried over the years to pick up Romanian to no avail this is the best that I’ve seen. If you can devote 30 minutes a day consistently u will learn Romanian.

when duolingo doesn't quite satisfy...

Like many folks, i hopped on the duolingo bandwagon, and it's a wonderful app.
However, my personal challenges with language learning is not learning the language itself, rather, it's my weak aural comprehension skills that present a challenge, along with forming/verbalising my own sentences and responses. Which leaves me "knowing" a language yet unlikely to start a conversation with a real person
Sadly, duolingo does not provide as much help in these areas.
i was hesitant to do a straight audio language course, do to my aforementioned comprehension difficulty and fear of leaving my comfort zone of "visual" learning.
Well i'm SO glad i gave pimsleur a shot!!!
It's challenging, absolutely, but it's proven to be extremely helpful for me. It first presents a short basic conversation, then the rest of the lesson is spent breaking down the sentences, learning the vocabulary and structure, and providing guided "conversations" that help the speaker get more comfortable with the language.
Anyone who shares in these difficulties, i highly recommend giving pimsleur a try ( :
