The genius, the mechanic, and a new playbook...
George
My brother’s friend is hot. If you’re into flannel-wearing lumbersexual former jocks who eat donuts for dinner and still scribble to-do lists on their palms. I’m not. I’m a serious scientist in my final of grad school. Sure, I have few quirks of my own, and I’m all for having fun, but I don’t have time for Aiden’s brand of crazy.
Aiden
A few quirks? Really? I’ve always had a soft spot for George, but he’s the weirdest dude I know. He wears capes in public, brings a book everywhere he goes, and loves all thing spooky. He’s also the smartest person on the planet, and I need his help if I’m going to make a real attempt at becoming a baseball analyst. I just didn’t count on falling for my best friend’s nerdy brother. This is against the rules, isn’t it?
Rules of Play is an MM bisexual awakening story where opposites attract and shenanigans ensue!

The characters were adorkabke and quirky and I instantly felt the chemistry between them.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series and this was no exception.
The narrator performed an enthusiastic Audio delivery and narration.

I don’t really have anything more to add to my original review of the ebook which you can read below:
This book is so good! I love how Aiden and George can joke around and tease each other and still have tender, romantic moments. Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes and this is a really great one. I also love a great bisexual awakening story; watching Aiden slowly come to the realization that he’s felt more than friendship for George for several years was really nice.
Rules of Play is filled with many tender and, sexy moments. George and Aiden helping Newton, George’s co-worker/supervisor, win his love interest was also a lot of fun. Aiden’s nasty family wasn’t much fun but fortunately they didn’t get featured any more than necessary to move the story along.
I loved that George’s POS (piece of sxxt) SUV was called Willy; it made for lots of great opportunities for puns and risqué comments. 😊 I’m so glad that I discovered Lane Hayes books a few years ago and I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

George is a scientist who drives an older vehicle that wants to die. Aiden comes to his rescue however, and makes sure he can get a little more time out of the vehicle. In the mean time - they find they have some things in common.
Aiden has always liked George and has just recently discovered what that meant and how much. Choosing to spend more time together, they find a comfortable friendship that soon turns out to be so much more. The future for both is suddenly looking very bright.
I thought these characters were very sweet. I listened to this and found myself hoping we will see this couple again. The narrator made it an even better story as I was able to lay back and relax and just enjoy the book.

George is super smart but also very quirky. He’s socially awkward and I can totally relate to the need to only being ‘on’ around people for a short time because it is truly exhausting. He wears a cape or carries a book to protect himself. He’s also had a crush on Aiden for a while.
Aiden is an ex-jock with a crappy family situation who somehow didn’t realize his fascination and ‘bro-crush’ on George meant a bit more than he thought. He’s smarter than he first appears – he’s pursuing a career as a statistician – and he’s also big and loveable.
I like these two together, especially since they’ve been friends for years. Their banter is entertaining and endearing, and they just work.
We still have a couple more guys who I’m betting will get books so I’m in it for the long haul with this series.
The vocal performance is good. I've only heard this vocal performer a couple of times but he does a good job of telling the story.
Another great Lane Hayes story!

While a quick and lighthearted story, the narrative manages to delve into more serious themes of self-discovery while dealing with not-so-pleasant family members. These concepts are tackled with, and adding just the right amount of conflict to cause tension, without the book being super angsty.
Bottom line: A fun bi-awakening romance with wit, heat, and loveable nerds.
Sweet, Quirky Loveliness

Love this couple

In book two, the romance is between a different couple than the first, but since it is the best friend(s) and brother of the first two characters, the previous couple appears frequently. It seems the series will have a nerd and jock fall in love theme, since The Script Club that the series is named after is a group of smart and somewhat nerdy college students and roommates who discuss starting a business to earn them money while they further their studies. The “club” hasn’t really done anything as a group yet, but I am curious if they will actually work together on a project in the next books. Still the group will be evolving as each member pairs off and perhaps moves out.
In this book, we meet Aiden, the close friend of George’s brother, Simon. Aiden is a former jock turned mechanic. At least until he can finish classes that will help him become a sports analyst. Though he was close to George’s family, things between him and George have been sort of strange, like when Aiden tried to steal a girl who George was kind of dating. George has always found Aiden attractive but as far as he knows Aiden is as straight as they come. When the two agree to help each other with their school and car problems, of course they learn that all was not as they thought.
I really came to like George and his contradictions. Out of all the Script Club members, he seems to be the “coolest.” His vampire capes create an air of confidence even as he uses them as a sort of protection. Aiden is a good guy and likable, too. I rolled my eyes at them worrying over what George’s brother would think about him dating his best friend even though Simon had done the same thing in the first book. The two are solid characters with set goals and life plans, though, and they made for a very sweet pairing. I felt the book missed a little bit of the heat and intensity of the first book, but I enjoyed this listen and would definitely recommend checking out the book and the series.
A sweet story!
