Publisher's summary

Mark Aleki Rogers left the Navy SEALs behind, but he found another use for his special skills. He and his fellow brothers-in-arms now run an intense boot camp that trains civilians to survive extreme situations. Mark's size is intimidating, but the half-Samoan surfer is an eternal optimist. A suspicious string of suicides among SEALs, however, has Mark convinced it's murder. He's determined to get to the bottom of it quietly. If he doesn't, a murderer may go free.

Reporter Geneva Rios has come to the California coast looking for a story. The recent SEAL suicides are connected to the Brothers-in-Arms, and Geneva wants to know more. The interview she's hoping for, though, comes at a price. The smoking-hot SEAL won't talk unless she completes his training course. If she can survive Mark's audition, she'll have the angle she needs. Spending more time with Mark has its own perks, but for the exotic brunette, exposing the Navy SEALs is more than just a story - it's personal.

As the heat between them reaches its boiling point, the pair puts more than their heads together. But with their own lives in danger, can they catch a killer before it's too late?

Great Book!!

What did you love best about SEAL Defender?

I loved the book! The book is full of some unexpected twists. There is mystery, murder, accidents and romance. The e-book and story are awesome. I could visualize Mark as the Rock. The story one of my very favorites by this talented author.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Geneva and Mark equally. I did not like Geneva's boss for suggesting she use trickery to gain Mark's attention.

What aspect of Sean Patrick’s performance would you have changed?

His voice did not sound like what I envisioned Mark to be (more like The Rock and not a midwestern person). I felt he was not the right narrator for this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had read the book and loved the story, so I was disappointed with the narrator not having the mental image or sound of what I was expecting. I did listen to this book in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I think I would have enjoyed this audiobook more if I would not have had preconceived ideas in my head regarding the narrator. Leslie North is a very talented author and I will continue to both read and listen to her books. I received this book upon my request and have voluntarily written this review.

Fun book

It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities.
2 there are redeeming qualities.
3 good worth reading, or well written but not my cup of tea.
4 great but there's something off.
5 loved it.

This was cute and shortish coming in at a bit more than 4 hours. I felt that it could have used more development.
The narrator brings the story to life.
Reasons I enjoyed this audio book:
Happily Ever After, Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Action-packed, Steamy.

Geneva and Mark

This is the first book in a series about some retired navy seals who form a company called Brothers in Arms. There are three partners in the company and this book concentrates on one of them, Mark. Two of their friends are dead, supposedly by their own hands but when Mark and the rest of the team start to investigate there are lots of things which don't add up. Then a reporter arrives on the scene to talk about how the Military could do better by its ex-servicemen and women. Here own brother has committed suicide because, she feels, the military failed him.

Geneva is a strong woman and she and Mark are instantly attracted to each other, they start a relationship, only sex says Geneva but Marks wants more. Then their investigations start to bring forth unwanted attention from the people behind his two friends deaths and Mark finds himself in danger. Can his team save him?

I loved the connection between Geneva and Mark, I liked how they fought but came together again. There is a lot more I could say but that would involve spoilers - so sorry not going there. What I can say is I am now looking forward to learning more about the other two members of Brothers In Arms. I liked how Leslie built the story and really enjoyed Sean Patrick's narration, he did it very well.

I was given a copy of this book as a gift and am vountarily writing his review.

A bull's eye to the senses.

What made the experience of listening to SEAL Defender the most enjoyable?

Having read the book before taking a listen to the audio version, adrenaline was a major draw. The biggest thrill came from the fire that Geneva and Mark set off. The sprinklers were needed with the heat that flowed between these two.

What was one of the most memorable moments of SEAL Defender?

Any scene between the main characters was moment to remember. The heat was palpable. It was obvious their was an attraction. But my favorite character was sister Layla. She didn't let a filter stop her from speaking her mind. A quality she and Geneva had in common

Which scene was your favorite?

That first scene between Geneva and Mark. When he runs into her as he's leaving the party. She's fearless when she makes her presence known and puts all her cards on the table.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

With a chip on his shoulder and pain in his heart, one man sets out to get answers.

Any additional comments?

With Leslie North, no story is ever half - ***. Whether on the run from danger or looking for clues to a puzzle, author, characters and narrator let's it all hang out.

This guy was like The Rock...in all the BEST WAYS!

Don't want to give too much of this away but WOW...a lot was packed in this shorter book...well written characters, intrigue and great action (both kinds of action)!

The Summary gives a lot of the storyline, and I don't want to give spoilers but this does bring awareness to some of the problems our veterans face.

Mark and Geneva have great chemistry and both have some things to work thru, but I'd attend their trainings if these guys were there! I meant what I said in my headline!!!!

Worth a credit or the money...whichever you prefer it is worth it!

I was provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Good start to a series

Any additional comments?

3.5 stars
Very entertaining and enjoyable. Good start to a series. The story pulls you in immediately and never lets go. Before you know it 4 hrs has flown by and the story is over. I wish it had been a little longer just because I wanted more. For a shorter story there was a lot packed into it. Never a dull moment. Steamy romance, suspense, mystery and a couple of twists you don't see coming to keep things really interesting. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Great cast of characters.

The synopsis tells you all you need to know except that you will really enjoy it.

Sean Patrick does a good job with the narration. He has a nice voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken. He was able to bring the characters and story to life. His male voices are great of coarse, his female voices were to high pitched. Especially at the beginning of a sentence. It's a pet peeve of mine. The narration seemed a little fast/rushed at times as well. Overall though very enjoyable.

This was a fast-paced story and kept me on my toes

This book introduces you to Mark Rogers, a former SEAL who's created a boot camp with his fellow brothers. When a rash of suspicious "suicides" start to occur among fellow SEALs, Mark is determined to find out the truth. When he crosses paths with Geneva Rios, the fact that she's a reporter immediately sends up a red flag. She has her own reasons for investigating the deaths, as she tries to earn his trust so she has an ally, she finds herself getting too close to the truth.
